Guest guest
>OK, have to vent guys. ALthough it sounds like some of you must endure this >torture way more frequently than I, I also know that you guys know what kind >of birth I am " accustomed too " so here is the ugly story! I think most of us here, and everywhere for that matter, don't get to experience working in a place like yours Jan. What you described is more of the norm for us. >Manager calls to tell me she is in a tough spot, he denies that he was >intentionally sectioning her. Says my exam was wrong. Etc. You know how it >goes. >She tells me she has no reason to doubt me, there have been many complaints >about him but it takes time to gather stats etc. She will try and make sure I >do not have to care for any of his patients for awhile, please, please stay. >I am an example of professionalism in nursing. " She supports me 100%, yeah >right, but the patient still got sectioned for NO REASON!!!!!!And she did >nothing to prevent it. Playing the devil's advocate here, the woman did sign the consent form right?? That was HER choice, not yours. Obviously since they had knowledge of what was going on between you and the doc they knew your reasonings for objecting and still chose to opt for the section. You have no control over that. The choice was their's. >Next day I have to face this family. They are hugging me, crying, saying how >wonderful I am. Is this a consolation? No. I failed as a pt advocate. No you didn't, she made her choice. Because someone makes a choice different than what we choose, doesn't make us a failure because again, it's not our choice to make. >I don't know if I can work like this. I don't know if I can wait till the >stats are in and he is out! Thats why I left the other place I worked....I >don;t want to do technobirth anymore! >I am so sick of this all.....I need a vacation. Thanks for listening. I do understand, since I feel very torn about my own part in all of this. I don't work in a place like yours, and frankly if I had spoken to one of the docs like that, I'd have been fired. I hate techno birth, and chose to have a free standing birth center birth for my own two some 17 years ago. But I do love doing high risk and the adrenaline rush that goes with working in a busy Level 2. In many ways I would love to become a lay midwife, but alas, we need the steady income, and I think I would miss the *rush*. Is assisting a midwife an option for you Jan?? Could you afford it, or perhaps becoming one yourself??? You are going to be hard pressed to find anywhere that is less interventionistic than where you are now. And heaven knows that all places have *bad* docs! So.Cal.

Who wants to switch doctors in the middle of an induction? From the way Jan describes this doctor, he would have terminated her care and left her for the on-call doc to follow. is right I would have been fired, too for speaking to a doctors in that manner. {{{Jan}}} (a hug for you and your bad day) We all have bad days. As long as the good bads out number the bad we will keep on birthing ! Robin Ohio (<> <>)
