Guest guest
Does anybody have any tips for " unclogging " ears that are blocked up due to sinus congestion? I'm on Amoxycillin to get rid of the ear infection, but my ear is still so clogged up. I want to get back to working out, but it's affecting my balance. UGH! Guest guest
Hi Susi, If you can find one, there is a natural remedy, sort of a sinus bath that you can do with a " Netti Pot " ,(it looks like a little flower watering picher). You fill it with warm distilled water and sea salts and, turning your head to the side, pour the water right through one nostril and out the other. I know you're problbly cringing right now, I did too when my sister showed it to me years ago, until I got so bad one day with sinus pressure that I broke down and gave it a try .. It did feel odd but it work wonders where nothing else would bring relief. I know i saw one last year for sale and I think you should be able to find one or your doctor might know where you could find one. Unless they're some weird southern thing!*lol* They do really help. Did your doctor give you anything else for the congestion? I took Seldane and it helped quite alot once when I had a bad sinus infection and alot of pressure. I hope you feel better soon! I know that's frustrating feeling all dizzy. Take care, Judie --- Susi wrote: > Does anybody have any tips for " unclogging " ears > that are blocked up > due to sinus congestion? Guest guest
Susi, Try Dimetapp or another type of decongestant. My son is afflicted with chronic ear problems, and if we don't give him the Dimetapp, the antibiotic will almost literally do nothing. Ask your pharmacist to assist you in picking the right type and strength for your needs. There are also other decongestants that are just as effective. Guest guest
Susi, I have the exact same problem every time I get a cold or anything. The only thing that will clear it up is staying on the antibiotic long enough for your ears to clear. Any quick fixes actually cause your body to take longer to heal. A few years ago I was on the antibiotic for 6 weeks before it totally cleared up. Also, be sure to drink at least 64 ounces of water a day, that is the quickest way to loosen up all of your fluids and the pressure and the infection clear out of your system. To prevent this from happening in the future, look into allergy nasal sprays (I use nasonex) and use it at the earliest sign of sinus pressure. If you don't, once you have an infection, it will go straight into your ears. Good luck! -Jenn (who currently has some sort of fluid still in her ears but is hoping it is allergies and not an infection) Does anybody have any tips for " unclogging " ears that are blocked up due to sinus congestion? UGH! >>SusiI have a friend who swears by a therapy where you lie on your side and they burn a candle like thing in your ear - sounds horrendous, but she raves about it because it cleared her sinuses and hearing after years of having trouble and nothing else clearing it up fully. I don't know if it has a special name though.. Jill who'll try it when I need to, but she said it's disgusting the amount of 'gunk' that comes out of your (clean) ears! It was actually when all my relatives were at my aunt's house for my uncle's funeral (it was before the funeral...you know when everyone's just gathered around)! Well, one of my cousins had heard of this, so we called around and found the candles. I think they're just called ear wax candles or something to that effect (I could be totally wrong, though...LOL)! We found them at GNC and they're also available at health food stores. We all sat around a big table and cleaned out our ears! You make a hole in a paper plate and stick the candle through the hole. Then you put the candle in your ear and let it burn down until it's right above the paper plate. Then you take it out and open it up and there's a ton of wax inside. It is totally amazing how much wax comes out! We have pictures of us doing that....LOL! I've got such a strange family who is sitting here laughing at that memory....thanks Jill

Susi >> Susi, Are your sinuses due to allergy? If so talk to your doctor abour rhinocort aqua. I use it and it does wonders!!! It may not help now but it is a good preventative. I always find a really good way to clear my sinuses is to just drown my self in spicy foods, onions and garlic. Plus these are thermagenic foods which help increase your metabolism!!!!! AVOID at all costs dairy products until you are better. This helps your body produce mucus...which of course right now is bad. Take plenty of hot baths and showers and dry your hair immediatly despite the damage it might due to your hair. Try to avoid swimming for a bit as your ears are having enough pressure equalizing right now as id. If it takes a few days to get your balance back....take the time to do some serious stretching and walking....there are usually ways you can work around injuries and ailments...unless of course it is a virus. Hope you feel better!
