Guest guest
Oddly, about sulfur, I was just in a home brew supply house, getting cheese making supplies, and so looked around the store. Though I don't drink, I love the idea of making beer and wine. Anyway, on the shelf of cleaning supplies they actually had these long strips, about an inch wide and about 3 or 4 inches long, and the tag said sulfur! As I don't brew, I have no idea what these would be used for, but I thought it was strange. Guest guest
Sulfur strips might be used to repel insects. g sulfur is a common remedy to place around pant cuffs to prevent ticks from climbing on board. It is also a soil acidifier in the garden which is where you can purchase dusting sulfur. This is not double bonded though. If your garden soil is not acidic enough plants will not absorb iron so many use sulfur to correct symptoms of iron deficiency. Guest guest
Huh. But why would they have this in a home brew store? That's all that's in the store--stuff to make beer, wine and cheese. Maybe it acidifies water for sterilizing things? Samala, -------Original Message------- Sulfur strips might be used to repel insects. Tie to a stick, light and place in barrel hanging from stick outside bung hole. Sold per each. Especially useful when storing a barrel dry. Burn about 1" of stick per 10 gallons of barrel size. Strip size is 8" x 1" x 1/8" thick. http://www.thegrape.net/browse.cfm/4,9088.htm

Guest guest
Ah, so THAT's what it's for. Thanks--it was making me a little nuts trying to figure it out. And yes, I'm so bad with measurements, but I'm sure the sticks were longer than the 4 inches I mentioned. 8 sounds about right as they were long and narrow.
