If you are raising them & need a lot of plants, put them in large pots. Depending where you are, they can be grown outside. Smitty
Guest guest
No need to loose any of it when you repot, except the pieces already dead. Aloe is very forgiving--just cut through the roots to make smaller plant sections and pot up each section. Aloe rarely died if treated nicely. :-) Over watering is usually the culprit for aloe death. I've had plants that got left over winter without any water at all, and looked pretty sickly in the spring, just bounce back after repotting and water and sun. I don't know about freezing the gel. Usually a leaf will keep 2 to 4 weeks in the fridge. Just be sure you don't eat the outer green part unless you like sitting on the toilet. :-) Slice each leaf open and scoop out the gel. This is the part you eat. You can eat it as is, though not really tasty. You can throw it in a smoothie, you can put it in any drink. I have seen dried aloe gel powder, so I suppose if you have a dehydrator you could dry the gel and then store that to put in drinks or on wounds. Aloe gel directly on skin can be a bit drying, but on wounds, sprains, sunburn, it is excellent. Mixed with an oil such as coconut oil or olive oil it is great on the skin--or put the aloe on first, allow to dry, then add a bit of the oil to your skin. Samala, -------Original Message------- I've seen a zillion uses for aloe and references to quality, etc. Does anyone know where I could find info about using and preserving home grown aloe? Guest guest
OT is alright a since this is a small list. The only thing that is not OK is SPAM or complaining on the list about SPAM since that just feeds the SPAM energy. It is hard to strip out the gel without getting the yellow liquid that will give you diarrhea. Tried it and it was too difficult for oral use. For topical I would not worry about the yellow stuff. Also it has a naturally high content of silver so if you have any waste CS give it to your aloe plants. Guest guest
If you hang the aloe leaves on a clothesline with the cut end down, this helps the diahrrea causing juices to drip out and then you can peel off the skin and discard, then you can freeze the gel filets for later use. Aloe is naturally antibacterial and antifungal so it doesn't require much to preserve.blessings.. Now with a new friend-happy design! Try the new Yahoo!
