Guest guest
The things that have helped my 5 yo son the most are... a little under 1/4 tsp NOW mag citrate mixed in yogurt (with a little honey to combat sour taste) with breakfast and another 1/4 tsp after dinner (maximum of 300mgs mag a day) 1 tsp of Fibersure a day, split into 1/2 tsp with breakfast and 1/2 tsp with lunch lots and lots of diluted apple juice all day around 1 tbsp freshly ground flaxmeal cooked in buckwheat pancakes EVERY morning (only way I've found to disguise the flaxmeal - others mix with oatmeal but I find oatmeal too bulking) reducing wheat - replaced with buckwheat and wheat free pasta reduced insoluble fibre - no apple or pear skins, too many satsumas also block him up handful of green grapes or a few pineapple chunks or 1 skinned pear every day cooking with garlic and olive oil helps Results - 1 large soft bm a day! Guest guest
Hi and welome to the group My son had/has the same issues. things I've found that work. Mag citrate every other day, sorbitol (this is fruit sugar and is available OTC, just ask your pharmasist for it) Plumsweet plum juice/dried plum fruits. stool softening smoothies. These are made with frozen fruits, oj, flax oil, blend till smooth serve immediately. Ground flax seed, you can put this in/on anything! I will sprinkle it on pastas, cereals, bake it in cookies, muffins, pancakes, the list just goes on. YOu can literally put it in anything, it has no taste. It does make things grainy, and some kids don't like that texture, so if your son is like that (mine is, sensory issues) then stick to mainly baking it in foods. Tummy massages, help to get things and keep them moving, excersise, Eating anything that starts with a P, remeber P ='s poop. pears, plums, peaches, peas! Whole grain pastas (We really love the brilla plus pasta, in the yellow box. It is loaded with healthy whole grains!) Oatmeal I did try benefiber, did nothing at all for my son. He gets plenty of watered down juices all day long, green tea once a day, limited on milk, cause milk tends to be binding. Avoid/limit binding foods such as toast (unless it is organic whole grain bread) rice (unless brown) banana's, apples, Basically the BRAT diet, avoid it cause it does tend to make stool a bit harder. Guest guest
Betsy, Is the sorbitol a chewable? Also, If your child did have yeast issues, would this not be a good route considering it's a sugar?betsyconnersmommy wrote: Hi and welome to the groupMy son had/has the same issues. things I've found that work. Guest guest
No the sorbitol My son gets is liguid. I'm not sure about yeast issues and if the sorbitol would cause to feed yeast. I do know that sorbitol does not raise blood sugars (which is why it is used mainly in diabetic candies, cookies and such) and doesnt' cause dental carries. but as for yeast growth, i'm not really sure on that. > > > > The things that have helped my 5 yo son the most are... > > > > a little under 1/4 tsp NOW mag citrate mixed in yogurt (with a > little > > honey to combat sour taste) with breakfast and another 1/4 tsp > after > > dinner (maximum of 300mgs mag a day) > > > > 1 tsp of Fibersure a day, split into 1/2 tsp with breakfast and 1/2 > > tsp with lunch > > > > lots and lots of diluted apple juice all day > > > > around 1 tbsp freshly ground flaxmeal cooked in buckwheat pancakes > > EVERY morning (only way I've found to disguise the flaxmeal - > others > > mix with oatmeal but I find oatmeal too bulking) > > > > reducing wheat - replaced with buckwheat and wheat free pasta > > > > reduced insoluble fibre - no apple or pear skins, too many satsumas > > also block him up > > > > handful of green grapes or a few pineapple chunks or 1 skinned pear > > every day > > > > cooking with garlic and olive oil helps > > > > Results - 1 large soft bm a day! > > >
