Guest guest
Hi all - I am so glad I found this group...who would have thought that something like this even existed. Thank goodness for all my research aka googling! I have a 28 month old son who has suffered from constipation pretty much since he was born. Even when he was exclusively breast feed he 13 days without having a BM...I know they can go longer without if they are exclusively breast feed but that is over the number of days they say a baby should go without. And it has just gotten worse since then. One of the frustrating things about all of this has been that I have told his ped(s) about his problem and they pretty much just brushed me off until now. His current ped is the one who got us started on Miralax. He was on it for a month and within a day or two was right back to square one. His doctor said I would have to do it for longer and give him more (apparently I wasn't giving him enough) the first go round. So we did it again for another month. Then I started reading that this bowel retraining could take any where from 6-12 months. I did not feel comfortable with my 2 year old being on an adult medication and taking more than an adult takes at that. I took him off of it and have been doing more research about natural things I can give him. I bought some good quality aloe vera juice. He has been taking 4 ounces of it since Thursday. I have been giving him 2 tsps. of flax oil, feeding him the probiotic yogurt and dumping the culturelle tablets in his yogurt as well. I am at a loss. He is so crabby and has not gone to the bathroom since Thursday. Oh I forgot to mention the prune juice...it doesn't seem to help anymore at all. Do you all have any suggestions about what has worked for your baby? What about milk of magnesia? How well does it work? How much are you supposed to give of it? I know you all know this but this is soooo frustrating! I feel sorry for him but he is making the whole family miserable as well. Thanks for reading my book. :-) Any advice/help is much appreciated.
