what is the best form of magnesium to use for chronic constipation? I

tried magnesium citrate and it upset my stomach and made my mouth

burn, also tried oxide,no results and then I tried amino acid chelated

magnesium and it helped some, better than any other magnesium. Has

anyone heard of this type of magnesium? what are some of the groups

comments on magnesium for chronic constipation and why don't doctors

recommend it for their patients. seems like doctors aren't very

reliable, especially when it comes to nutrition and supplements. One

dr. prescribed lactulose which was useless to me. marg

Natural calm!! It is a powder form of mag citrate that you mix with warm water and drink like tea! They have lemon and raspberry flavor, a little tart, but better than the whole form of citrate! You mentioned that the citrate form upsets your stomach? Did you eat food befor taking? Citrate in higher amounts always would clean my son out! What amounts have you taken with the other forms? Maybe you need to up the amount for it to work. Have you tried other things such as Aloe vera juice, vitamin C? Jennie wrote: what is the best form of magnesium to use for chronic constipation? I think the best form varies, depending on your particular situation. My DD is currently taking the WaterOz magnesium, which is a bit easier for some kids because you can add it to water--it has a strong taste by itself, but mixed in a large cup of water it's unnoticeable. I think it's a little easier on your body too. Natural Calm is better as a laxative, though -- I just have a hard time getting my DD to take it! Also, when you use magnesium, sometimes it pulls other toxins out of the body and into the intestines -- my DD sometimes gets burning stools when she's taking magnesium -- and if that happens, probiotics seem to help a lot. yes I have tried natural calm and it burns my mouth worse than the problem of burning mouth I am already having. I also tried mag relax which is like natural calm and even got some cal-mag citrate complex as I have arthritis and it burned my mouth so bad I had to take pain meds. I am also seeing an oral surgeon and a mouth specialists but I also need to help my chronic constipation! I can't seem to take magnesium citrate at all. I did try a amino acid chelated magnesium which is helping a little. its like magnesium glycinate and also does not upset my stomach. one of the people in this group recommended it. mag oxide and the others were useless. I have taken the amout recommended plus and yes I;ve tried aloe vera juice with no results. The only thing that helped me was miralax but I'm trying to stay away from it for now. Its hard! I had no problems with miralax and even stopped miralax for months several times and still burning mouth but it helped my

constipation. so miralax is not causing my burning mouth and I also changed the foods I eat, meds, toothpastes and just about everything. I have been trying different things for the last 7 months and its hard. I can't imagine these poor children going thru this agony as I'm an adult and its hard on me. God Bless Them! I just want my mouth to stop burning as I get sore spots and I just want to be able to go to the bathroom. Sorry that this message is so long. margJennie wrote: Natural calm!! Im so sorry you are going through all this!! Seems you have a very sensitive mouth with the burning sensation!! I sure hope the oral surgeon can figure out what is going on and help you!! I was thinking that sense some things burn your mouth, what about trying mineral oil!! There is no taste and I think it would be gentler on your mouth. If on medications, you would need to make sure the meds are taken several hours befor the mineral oil. Maybe take the mineral oil at bed time! I have also heard the olive oil helps also and it is actually a healing oil!! Not like the other cooking oils. Also the high dose of Vitamin C could help. That would be pill form. Also garlic pills(I dont know if you could tolerate the whole stuff) could help with stool movements and very healing, can cause gas, but gas pills would help with that. For an adult and the aloe vera "juice" I think it would take up to 6-8 oz to start!! Just checking to make sure you used enough! Talk to you later!!

Marg,You aren't by any chance taking Nexium, are you? I took that for a few days (I was misdiagnosed with acid reflux) and it caused me to have a problem with the tip of my tongue...my tongue became so sore that I would have had to stop eating if I hadn't quit taking Nexium. How long have you had this? I hope someone has some good ideas for you...I would check the side effects for any medications and supplements that you might be taking, just to start with...

Bonnie, No I am not taking nexium but did take it a while back and went off because it was not helping me. I do take prilosec otc and it helps me but the reason I take prilosec is because I have severe arthritis and take arthritis med that irritates my stomach and even had an ulcer once from arthritic med. I tried a natural supplement for almost a year and had gone off the arthritis med.but the natural supplement didn't work. It was glusamine, chronditin and msm but it didn't help me. I hurt everywhere so bad as I have osteoarthritis and 2 other types of arthritis. I had to go back on arthritis med but didn't want to but had no choice. now I am trying to cope with hypoglycemia, chronic constipation, neuropathy in hands and feet and my mouth burning. I tried going off meds or changing them ,food, toothpastes, mouthwashes and currently am seeing an oral surgeon and he biopsied my mouth and it showed i had chronic inflammation but we are trying to find a cause. I

recently tried all kinds of magnesium for constipation and no luck, except amino acid chelated magnesium which has been helping me some with constipation. I also survived a heart attack 4 years ago and went into cardiac arrest but was brought back. I am a fighter but its getting hard to cope with everything all at once but I pray alot and this site and the people help me to keep trying as they, like you offer their support. I appreciate all the help i can get. thank you for your concern. I was on miralax for chronic constipation but went off it due to what everyone was saying about it not being safe to take. It was helping me but I am not sure its safe to take. thank you for listening. margBonnie Juettner wrote: Marg,You aren't by any chance taking Nexium, are you? Bless your heart Marg!!You really are a fighter!! I am wondering, have you ever tried to do a full body cleanse? I mean addressing every organ (one at a time) with certain cleanses and juicing. It is hard as all get out and cost an arm and a leg, but it does work for many folks. Even many have been healed of cancer doing full cleanses. And many of those were sent home to die. Just thinking it might be a possibility for you to try.Putting you on my prayer list!Susie ~Marg Messick wrote: Bonnie, No I am

Hi Marg,Oh, my. You certainly have your hands full with everything that you're dealing with. I can't imagine how you're coping! Are you working with a naturopath, chiropractor, or acupuncturist by any chance? It sounds to me like you need someone who is really good and knows a lot about natural medicine. I know it can be expensive, though, and insurance might or might not cover it. And...you probably have looked carefully at your diet, but just in case you haven't, that's something to think about. In Chinese medicine (this is what I remember from my trips to an acupuncturist while I was pregnant five years ago), symptoms like constipation, inflammation (in various parts of the body), and reflux might be considered heat symptoms. When I was seeing my acupuncturist, I was worried about inflammation, though in my case it was more in my skin (hives -- aka PUPP, pruritic particles of pregnancy, or something like that, and acne) than in my joints. My acupuncturist said that I had a heat condition and that I should avoid a long list of heat-producing foods -- many of which we all avoid anyway because they're constipating -- stuff like dairy and gluten and sugar, but also some things we might not normally think of, like orange juice and meat (with meat it depended on how much meat was involved--a small amount wasn't necessarily heat-producing), and seafood, and fermented foods like soy sauce, and spicy foods. My acupuncturist told me that sugar was the most important one for me to avoid and that if I had a flare-up, I should even avoid fruit. (Now I eat tons of fruit, but now I'm not pregnant anymore and that helps a lot!) Anyway, her advice did work for me (and my skin problems were extreme), and it got rid of the moderate constipation and reflux that I had been having with the pregnancy too, and, also cured the pregnancy-induced congestion in my sinuses. (Wish I could take my kids to her! But we moved away, and anyway she was an OB/GYN specialist.) Anyway, I'm not saying I think you should see an acupuncturist (though if you're able to I suspect it would be a big help), but what I'm saying is that when your body has something in it that it doesn't like, it will get rid of it, often by dumping toxins into your skin or joints, and that can cause inflammation. The trigger for you might not be the same things that were triggering my conditions. If there are certain foods that you eat all the time, maybe it would be worth Googling on those foods to look for side effects, just the way you would with drugs or supplements. Or, if you do go to see someone who specializes in this kind of thing, hopefully they can help you figure it out.

Good luck! I've found the longer you've had a problem, the harder it is to solve...unfortunately! :-( BonnieOn Jan 8, 2008 12:20 AM, Marg Messick <

Susie, thanks margSusie wrote: Bless your heart Marg!!You really are a fighter!! Just thinking it might be a possibility for you to try.Putting you on my prayer list!Susie

I tried going

off meds or changing them ,food, toothpastes, mouthwashes and currently am seeing an oral surgeon and he biopsied my mouth and it showed i had chronic inflammation but we are trying to find a cause. I recently tried all kinds of magnesium for constipation and no luck, except amino acid chelated magnesium which has been helping me some with constipation. It was helping me but I am not sure its safe to take. thank you for listening. margBonnie Juettner <bjuettnergmail> wrote: Marg,You aren't by any chance taking Nexium, are you? I took that for a few days (I was misdiagnosed with acid reflux) and it caused me to have a problem with the tip of my tongue...my tongue became so sore that I would have had to stop eating if I hadn't quit taking Nexium. How long have you had this? I hope someone has some good ideas for you...I would check the side effects for any medications and supplements that you might be taking, just to start with... mouth I am already having. Its hard! I had no problems with miralax and even stopped miralax for months several times and still burning mouth but it helped my constipation. so miralax is not causing my burning mouth and I also changed the foods I

eat, meds, toothpastes and just about everything. I have been trying different things for the last 7 months and its hard. Hello,

I am behind on my posts, so sorry for the late response - my kids use magnesium malate for constipation due to an intolerance to citrate. This keeps them going everyday, albeit they are on a high dose.
