Guest guest
Hi...I had to get labs drawn today, so I went to the closest place to me, not the lab I usually use connected with my Dr's office. One side of the office leads to a Physical Therapy area, the other side to the lab. A few minutes after I checked in, a woman, maybe 35, came in. She was blond, slender, tan, very fit, and I immediately pegged her as a snooty physical therapist who probably was repulsed at the sight of me. About 2 mnutes later I heard my name called to come to the lab....yes, it was HER. She was the sweetest, kindest, most respectful lady...we talked about a lot of things, mostly about losing weight & getting healthier. She shared some of her own struggles. She was SO encouraging to me. So genuinely encouraging. Lord, forgive me for being judgemental and snooty in my own way Yikes. You're never to old to learn! Sheepishly.... Guest guest
Tess, I think we're all guilty of doing that on occasion. And many times our conclusions are fairly accurate. I'm glad your conclusion was off, and she was such a sweet lady. Thanks for reminding us to be careful in our conclusions. Much love, Carol [ ] jumping to conclusions Hi...I had to get labs drawn today, so I went to the closest place to me, not the lab I usually use connected with my Dr's office. Guest guest
no 'm sorry 150 is the number i should be at 283 is the amount of protein in the blood. he is thinking the prednisone is sending me into diabetes. he hopes we can control it with diet and the bloop pressure meds to help protect the kidneys. kathy in il
Guest guest
Kathy, the 150/283 is that your cholesterol? Or is that in relation to the urinary infection? I'm sorry the doctor isn't really explaining himself very well, and that he thinks you can just do without the prednisone no problem. Doctors don't realize just how much pain we are in. Sending love and hugs, Carol Re: [ ] jumping to conclusions
ok here i sit and fester. i have been waiting on those urine test results all week. the dr called and left a message for me to call him back. now that can't be good!! ok well he just called me back. something about normal is 150 i'm at 283. he is going to give me some anti-biotic samples and blood pressure medicine to protect my kidneys. he is going to call me rheumi and see if i can get off prednisone. Guest guest
i just don't get it. is this how it will always be. try new meds until something else pops up. then you have to rethink your plan all over. it's almost to the point where you have to stop and think...is this how i want to die? side effects are awful. or just quit and what will be will be. i am really thinking of waiting to talk to dr c in a couple weeks before i add this drug. i have taken the antibiotic and feel kinda woosy.gonna walk the dog again. i need the exercise. supposed to stay out of the sun and it has been georgeous. another nice weekend. stay out of the sun. don't go out between dawn and dusk for fear of west nile virus. what a life. i'm ok. just not looking forward to decide what road i want to take yet. bewildered!!! kathy in il
Guest guest
Oh no, Kathy. Diabetes isn't good. I think there are others in the group who have experience with the diet for diabetes, in case you have questions later on. Hopefully you'll be able to control it through diet alone. Much love, Carol Re: [ ] jumping to conclusions
no 'm sorry 150 is the number i should be at 283 is the amount of protein in the blood. he is thinking the prednisone is sending me into diabetes. he hopes we can control it with diet and the bloop pressure meds to help protect the kidneys. kathy in il
Guest guest
Kathy...I so sorry that you have another disease to try and control and live your life with. Both my husband and my mother have Diabetes. So far they have been able to control it with diet and medicine. There are so many things that diabetes can effect. Please listen to your dr and get it under control now because if you don't, it can suddenly get worse and you will have to use insulin. It really is an issue of balance...watching what you consume on a daily basis. I know that it is something that you have to be ever vigilant about but there is a lot of good info out there that can help point you in the right direction and then after a while you will develop what works for you. Sometimes life just isn't fair! Let us know how you do and I wish you the best as you try to cope with another disease. Iris -- Carol <carol@...> wrote: > Oh no, Kathy. Diabetes isn't good. Guest guest
i am trying, it is very hard. i was raised on th menu carol has planned. but i have added more fruits and veggies in the past couple years. it is also hard since my son is more of a picky eater than i am and we are broke, so one meal is cooked and eaten. i can't afford both. usually ground beef or chicken. kathy in il
Guest guest
Kathy, As a type 2 diabetic, I know that prednisone can cause the blood sugar to skyrocket. I was on a low dose for a few months, but managed to control my diabetes by adding another medication and also eating as few carbohydrates as possible. I don't know how it works, but the prednisone knows when you eat carbs, and raises the blood sugar as a result. Try cutting back on not only sugary things, but also starches such as bread, rice, pasta, cereal, and fruit. Yeah, all the good stuff. But try this and see if it helps.
