Guest guest
Hi!! Sorry for the delay!! Sorry your son is going through this! In reading your post some in this group do discuss on the withholding issues(that is not a problem with our son)! It probably does hurt him beings it is hard and maybe avoids going!! Hopefully some in hear can give you suggestions on that issue! It sounds like maybe he is straining to go, you mentioned the pebble stools! Usually it is hard to get supplements to work until the hard stuff is out! You are using good supplements, but he needs a cleanout! Is your aloe whole(as close to 100% possible). Lots of extra water has made things much better with my son with the aloe. At his age magnesium citrate clean would probably be difficult to get in him. They do have pill form, but in much lower dose and would require a lot of pills for the cleanout affect! Magnesium is good in higher dose for looser stools. There has been many discussions in here about the different forms to use. We found the citrate form would be best for the hard stuff but some mention issues with the citrate sometimes. They sale a childrens form of magnesium citrate they can drink called " natural calm " . We have not personally used childrens form so I hope someone can help with that. My son is to sensory to drink it! Some extra vitamin C can cause looser stools also! Have you been monitoring his food/drink to maybe see what may be contributing to his constipation(rice, banana's, even clorinated tap water, etc). Him not wanting to go is probably due to the hard stools to begin with and hurting! I hope your little guy gets some relief, relief well diffenitly help with the irritabilty also!! Guest guest
Hi, this is our daughter exactly. She is 4 now, but after her early immunizations she became constipated. Severely. She has pebble ball poop or no poop without intervention. UNFORTUNATELY, we have had to go back to Miralax until we find something else that works. I know it is horrible, but nothing, and i mean nothing else has worked for our girl. It does not make her nuts unless she is constipated and the miralax is in her just sitting there....so if i keep up a low dose of miralax and keep things soft, she seems Ok. I still knwo it is awful and I am trying to figure out something better. She will be seeing a DAN! doctor soon, and I am hoping he can help her gut. Right now she takes probiotics, fish oil, super nu therapy vitamins, etc.... in the past we used mineral oil, milk of magnesia, suppositories, pear juice, fruit, water, etc...NOTHING helped her. Guest guest
Defeat Autism Now. Don't let the word Autism fool you -- it's really a biomedical school of thought that kid's don't " normally " have GI issues and many problems can be solved by identifying the underlying issues. Here's the list of practitioners http://www.autism.com/dan/index.htm#practlist BTW -- My favorite ND is not a DAN Dr -- so don't think you can only get help from only this list. > > > > > > > > Hi - I am relatively new to this group and am happy to have > found > > > it. > > > > My 28 month old son is constipated because he has a " fear " of > going > > > to > > > > the bathroom. Guest guest
Hi I have a 2 (will be 3 in March ) yr old boy. He has had problems passin stool since he was born as well. Although his is not a withholding problem. It is cross between him being " low toned " and heretidary factors (such as I have had and still do have bowel problems. ) But soemthing you said about him having " withholding problems since birth " OK, here's the thing, until they actaully learn to control their spincter to hold in poop. Poop is just like urination. They really have NO control over it at all. COntrol, adn therefore withholding is a learned response, and is not something that is present from birth on. IF he has had trouble with BM's from birth onward, then they may be other things that need to be looked at. Did it take him more than 48 hours to pass his first meconium (first poop)? Does he have any delays such as in gross motor, fine motor, or speech skills? I would go to a DAN or a good GI and get a 2nd opinion about what is causing his constipation and therefore causing him to withhold now. You say too he's still in diapers, correct? Are you tryign to potty train at all? If not, if you havent' even introduced the potty then the chances of him knowing how to actually " withhold " his poop may not be the problem, there may be something else going on. KIWM. What works well for my son Flax seed ground meal (much better than oil, as the meal contains fiber as well as the oil) Flax seed oil (on days he doesn't get enough meal) fruit smoothies tummy massages, sorbitol (OTC laxative that is just fruit sugar) Mag- citrate ( I use a capsule form, that I just open and shake the powder in his juices/ no taste that way) Kid lax if things get too backed up, and he needs a " clean out " havent had ot use that in a while (it is all natural, sold at wholefoods and Healthfood stores) Probotics (baby Jarro's dophilius) you will find that actual probodtic powders or tablets are much better and more concentrated then those foudn in yogurts. I did do Miralax for a few weeks, but got very uncomfy with using it long term. When i expressed concern to my ped, she of course tried to assure me it was compelelty safe, and had no risk of dependancy. I was then sent to a GI (at my insistance) adn i'm sooo happy I went. My son's GI is a great doc, who is all for natural treatments if that is what parents would like to do. My son has been off miralax for about 3 months now (give or take) and has been doign pretty good. I don't shoot for a BM every day. It is nice when they come that way, but I don't shoot for it. I shoot for 3 BM's a week. Guest guest
Hey - Thanks for your reply. I also replied back and it ended up being a blank post?? Not too sure what happened there. But I appreciate your comments. It is something to think about for sure. My son's problem could be somewhat hereditary as my husband's mother relates him going (although not quite as bad as my son) through tough times trying to have BM's as well. I would like to take my son to a DAN doctor but I checked the list on their site and there aren't any near me in , MS. I have thought about a pedi GI doctor but have been reluctant because I know most doctors are prescription happy and only think in terms of drugs to " fix " problems. But I would like to rule out anything more serious. How do you get your son to take the flax seed meal? Thanks again. It is so nice to talk to other parents who understand what you are going thorough. A couple of my other friends think I am obsessing over this poop issue and that I just need to relax. If only they knew... > > > > > > > > Hi - I am relatively new to this group and am happy to have > found > > > it. > > > > My 28 month old son is constipated because he has a " fear " of > > going > > > to > > > > the bathroom.
