Guest guest
, You are the best. I haven't gone to the sites yet but I am going to go today. This is all too upsetting and I am so worried. On top of it all the surgeon is making me go for a colonscopy (sp) and to the gyn. I don't even have a gyn and the GI doctor is helping me. I wish I could just craw into a hole. The GI doctor told me, she doesn't want me to be upset but when a patient has had a whipple and than this surgery everything may not be right. The eating problems may never go away. Simply put the connection between the stomach and the intestines just doesn't work right. So a lot of what I feel when I eat will remain. She wanted me to know this up front. Surgeon didn't tell me this, but I appreciate her honesty. I will just have to deal with all that. Right now though they have to re-route some things, plus get the scar tissue. What a mess. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for the sites, I have read them. It is helpful, since I don't understand why the doctor didn't give me anything. I really think the reason is that my insides are so different from anyone else's. I hope to educate myself completely before I have this surgery. I remember so well how much information you sent me last time that I went into the whipple with a full knowledge of what to expect. I just read about after the surgery with this one and it seems to be the same as the whipple. I was hoping for no tubes but it seems like that is pretty standard with stomach surgery. I hope I am strong enough for this, I tell myself I am. Isn't it great that Deb is feeling better. That was very scary waiting to see how see was doing. Hope her recovery continues to be good. Thank you again my friend for the sites, you are an angel. Guest guest
Lynn, you're welcome for the sites. It's the least I can do. Even though they don't apply exactly to your situation, the drawings and some of the details are relevant. I thought the last one was interesting since it demonstrates that GI surgeons are trying to find different ways of performing the gastrojejunostomy which lessen the possibility of delayed gastric emptying (DGE) as a post-surgical problem. You can do this. I'm really sorry you have to though. It's reassuring that your local GI doc says she would do it. Did to mention what type of gastrojejunostomy (Billroth II, with a partition, anything else to describe it?)? Did he say anything about improving your ability to eat? What about addressing the pain now and post-surgery? Re: [ ] Gastrojejunostomy > Hi , > Thank you for the sites, I have read them. Guest guest
Hi , Your right the last one, I felt was more me. But any information is good. to told me very little. He says the pain in not from all this, but my GI says it is. Apparently this is what surgeons says about scar tissue. My GI told me to be prepared that the eating problems may not be improved. Actually, there is a good chance that they will remain the same. Until you sent the sites I did know there were different Gastrojejunostomy's. I will ask either my primary or the GI doc. Now I do have questions and I don't know if I can call to. They won't put him on, all I will get is a resident. I do have delayed emptying, that may not get any better. I have had that since the whipple. I have to start writing everything down. I think he didn't tell me much because I have to be in the hospital on 26th. They have to get all the bile out of the pouch and the nurse said they do that with an IV. But I want to find out what else has to be done. How I wish there was a better answer or I am thinking maybe it could be put off. I can't stop thinking about it, I am so worried. How you are getting use to your daughter being in college? It takes time but you will get use to it. Lynn wrote: > Lynn, you're welcome for the sites. It's the least I can do. Guest guest
, After reading the sites I have questions for to. I probably shouldn't call down there but I am. I want to know the mortality rate on this surgery. I want to know which gastrojejunostomy I am going to have. Also, will they take me to intensive care afterwards and for how long. When I had the whipple, to did not want to be on vacation. He was leaving for vacation on Sunday and I was operated on Friday. This is happening again, I want to be sure that he knows that this surgery is scheduled and he will be leaving. I think he doesn't know that. What can I expect after the surgery? How are they going to get the bile out of my system. I know I have to be in the hospital the day before, she said they do it with an IV. Can you think of anything else? Am I expecting too much? Guest guest
Lynn, call, call, call! to has an obligation to answer all the questions you have before such a serious surgery. In addition to what you have thought of, I would ask him if this surgery will help you with your eating problems. Also ask him what he believes is the major source of your pain. Write everything down so that you don't leave anything out. You're very welcome for the sites. Let me know if you want me to look for anything else. I am feeling better about , thank you. I can't believe she's called me as many times as she has. I'm trying to leave her alone, but she is calling me. I'm sure that will end, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts. It's been a very long week. Try not to worry, Re: [ ] Gastrojejunostomy > , > > After reading the sites I have questions for to. I probably shouldn't > call down there but I am. Guest guest
I called , and they were nice. It will be a week give or take in the hospital. Couple of months recovering at home. Mortality rate is 1 to 2% but she told me, I am young and it is probably a little lower than that. There is a good chance this will happen again. But I am putting that on the back burner till it happens. I need to get through this. I ask her about two surgeries like this back to back and only a year apart. She says I have a good heart and he wouldn't do it if he had any thought I couldn't handle it. A lot of what happens when I eat may not change with this surgery. It is the way things are going to be, even my GI told me this. I can accept that situation, as I have been learning to deal with it. I have to come off of my metho, which I remember happened last time too. And that makes sense to me. This is not as big a surgery as the whipple but it is still up there. He also told me, I really need to do this, or it will just get worse. So I guess it is a go. Has anyone heard how Deb is doing? Keep hoping for good news about her. Guest guest
I'm relieved to hear that you called, Lynn! Great, too, that they were kind and answered your questions. I'm sorry that this is a big worry for you, but it doesn't sound as if you have any other option. They will take good care of you. And all of us and that good-looking Jesus will be right there with you. Re: [ ] Gastrojejunostomy > I called , and they were nice. It will be a week give or take in the > hospital. Guest guest
k, I found out last night I am having a Billroth II. At least that is what my primary told me. He believes I will be better off. However, I have know him for a great deal of my life, so I think it is a friend talking. How is making out. I'm sure she is fine, they do get homesick. Guest guest
Say, Lynn, let's just hope your primary is right. I'm not sure he would make up a whopper just to make you feel better. I am feeling optimistic about the surgery, too. Looks like the Billroth II is the most common type of gastrojejunostomy, so at least we can guess that to has probably done a lot of them. I know the waiting for the date to come up must be terribly difficult. I'm so sorry about that. is fine. Today is the two-week mark. Hard to believe. She is still calling me daily. A little while ago, she called for some homework-related advice. Thank God (or is it Al Gore?) for the Internet. So easy to send her links. I remember so many trips to the library when she was younger. Thanks for asking. We are adjusting very well, I think. Hang in there, Re: [ ] Gastrojejunostomy > k, > I found out last night I am having a Billroth II. At least that is what > my primary told me. He believes I will be better off. Guest guest
Hi , Glad you are getting use to being away. Before you know it she will be home for Thanksgiving. The waiting for this surgery is terrible, I wish there was an easier answer. I never wear sweat pants but I bought some. I remembered how swollen I was last year and couldn't wear my jeans for awhile. I went to the gyn and just have the last test on Friday. At the gyn everything is fine and the pain I am having is from scar tissue, so that is good. I think you should thank God for the internet not Gore, hehe.
