Hi,

Due to an accident I have some knee injuries including a full ACL tear

in one knee and partial meniscal tear in the other, and had a broken

metarsal bone in my foot. I already have chronic Lyme/CFS/FMS and have

overall body pain. Since the accident the pain and flulike feeling

have increased and pain is in parts of my body I did not have it

before, even parts not hit in the accident. The pain in the injured

areas persists, though at this point it's not severe.

I've been given the option of arthroscopy for the meniscal tear, and

either arthroscopy, full ligament repair, or just physical therapy for

the ACL tear. I've done several months of physical therapy and it does

help. I'm thinking of not getting surgery for the full ACL tear but

maybe getting the more minor arthroscopy for the meniscal tear because

of the pain.

The problem is is that I cannot distinguish the injury pain from the

chronic Lyme/CFS/FM pain. The pain is not constant in any one place,

it moves around my whole body and flares to varying degrees throughout

the day. Therefore it's hard to know if surgery would help, because my

body doesn't seem to respond normally to anything. I don't know what

things would be like without the Lyme/FM/CFS. I fear the " repair "

might make things even worse in the long term.

Has anyone been in a situation like this? Any advice?

Thanks, and peace,

Barb
