Guest guest
I have another addition to the Yankee stories: In June of 2000, I moved from my birthplace (Queens, NY) to my current residence (Culpeper, VA). While waiting for a train, an elderly gentleman asked me the time. After I answered him, he said " I reckon you're not from around here. " I stifled the temptation to laugh, then I told him I was from Queens, NY. He replied, " So, you're a Yankee. " I said, " Well, I'm closer to Shea Stadium (where the NY Mets play), but I'm a Yankee fan. " With that he walked away in a huff as if I had just taken the Lord's name in vain. Later that night, I was recalling the incident to my roommate, a fellow NYer whose dad lives in NC. She helped me realize why the man walked away from me. Now when people tell me I'm a Yankee, I still have the same response. It usually makes people smile. Have a great day, ===== Rose DeNicola Coordinator, Fauquier County's Promise 73 E. Guest guest
, Perfect answer! Loved the story. The way I figure it, if there weren't any Yankees in the South, the indiginous population wouldn't have anything to talk about.
