Hi Iris,

I'm going to set a date to stop smoking next week, need to get my DH on

board though. I've decided I just have to do it before I get pregnant and

plus have read that it's not helping my chances - besides being appaling for

my health. I bought a book called " The Easy Way to stop Smoking " by

Carr. I must admit that he's got a good method, he doesn't use any scare

tactics and just explains to you why you smoke and blasts all your excuses

out of the water. His theory is that we are addicted and that it's actually

much easier than we think to stop, the actual effects of nicotine withdrawl

are not that bad but we've been brainwashed into feeling all these

psycologically induced symptoms when we stop. It's a long story, maybe look

the book up - it's quiet good. He promises when you finish you will stop

and it won't be too bad, you can only stop when you finish (which is the

reason it's taken me 6 months to read the book LOL!) but now I'm serious I'm

going to try and finish it this week and then ba dam! Just go for it!

I'll let you know if it works.

Hugs,

Heidi

Heidi,

I agree with this author. Before I finally quit, I had never even tried to

quit because I " knew " that I couldn't. But I finally proved that I could.

A friend who had already quit told me that if I could get through five days,

I'd have it made. I clung to that hope, and sure enough, she was right. So I

think it's better to quit cold turkey instead of using a patch or something

that still puts the poison nicotine in your body.

Also, when I first quit, I stayed in bed all weekend, getting up only to eat

or go to the bathroom. It helped that I had flu, but you could try it,

anyway.

I wish you and the other smokers much success in your endeavor. Doing it

together, supporting each other, will help make your wish come true.
