Now there's nothing wrong with that.

Thanksgiving on Steroids (mega-doses)

Thought I'd fill everyone in on my Thanksgiving on mega steroids & in the

hospital 2 years ago story. I've spent a couple of Turkey Days in the

hospital over the years. Last year I was there for Christmas too. Really

bad time of the year for me.

Anyway.... I was on 70mg of oral medrol when they finally let me go home

after Thanksgiving. I'd missed turkey dinner with the family and my hubby

had taken the kids to his parents and there weren't even any leftovers.

When I was in the hospital, I was far too sick to even try to eat, so I

completely missed out on my very favorite holiday. I'm a huge lover of

turkey & yams... two of my very favorite things! I didn't even get a scoop

of mashed potatoes or leftover turkey sandwich! (Devastating!)

When I got home from the hospital about a week after Thanksgiving, I was

suddenly voraciously hungry from all the steroids. (I know some of you

understand this... it's like you just can't get filled up!).

And I was mourning the loss of my turkey dinner. My husband's best friend

was sleeping on our couch for a couple of weeks (after big break up with

live-in gf) and helping out with the kids while I was so ill.

Well... I decided that we needed to have a family turkey dinner. It was

completely reasonable in my mind that the men of the house could cook a full

turkey day dinner for me. I mean, what else did they have to do with their

time? So... I sent them to the store with a complete grocery list. Only,

it turned out not to be so complete and they ended back at the grocery store

4 times in the same day.

They very nicely humored me and went back and forth to the store....

cooked a full-size turkey (with stuffing), mashed potatoes, gravy...

I sent them back for cranberries and dinner rolls. They forgot to make

vegetables and I made them make me my annual green bean casserole and

candied yams. Which I ate separately later that night. Then they went back

for pumpkin pie & whipped cream.

To give my hubby the total credit he deserves, he did all of this with

hardly any complaint (ok... there were some grumblings of insane & damn

steroids, but he was very gracious!). Even when I was bitching and

complaining about the lack of vegetables and the missing pie, he was still

very understanding! Of course, he still won't let me live it down, but he

certainly proved his utmost devotion!!!!

In my " right " mind, I would never have dreamed up my husband & best friend

making a full turkey dinner, but it seemed to make perfect sense and a great

solution to my hunger issue at the time! Steroids really do make us do

crazy things. (LOL! I forgot I sent them back for black olives & celery

sticks too!)

Hope you all get a giggle over my crazy after Thanksgiving turkey dinner on

mega doses of steroids! :-)

Kathleen

That is a pretty funny story! Your husband and his friend were really good to you!!

My first Thanksgiving with my husband I had to work. He went to his aunt and uncles but didnt have the heart to ask his uncle for the little leftovers that were there so he initially told me that there wasnt anything left. When I came home from work the next day (I worked 2-1030 then did some grocery shopping so I got home at midnight, and the complex's gate was broken so I had to call him and see if he could get the gate to open on the exit side so we could get IN through the OUT), there was a COMPLETE turkey dinner on the table with roses!! We had none of the ingredients so he had to go shopping as soon as I left, thaw an 18lb turkey in the microwave (all he could get was a frozen one) & cook it. While that was in the works, he made stuffing, mashed potatoes, orange ginger squash and green bean casserole. He also made homemade biscuits from scratch. Talk about total surprise.
