Hi, Lovette:

Ironically, when I went on HPT my lyme symptoms ( could have been new

antiobiotic combo I had started) got better. I actually feel better than I

have in years. I thought maybe the HPT helped me ?????

Dear Friends: Have any of you been experiencing weird fluctuations in

temperature? My normal temp is about 97.3, but I have been fluctuating

between 95.1 and 98.4. I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago, and was on and

off estrogen patches, but I stopped my estrogen in September because it

was making the Lyme symptoms feel worse. Do you think this is lyme or

estrogen related?

Hi Lovette,

When I was on estrogen replacement my temperature was much lower than

after I discontinued it. My temp still runs low, but not anything like

on the estrogen. Unlike you however, I felt much better on the

estrogen. I could not tolerate the progesterone, though, and was afraid

to continue with unopposed estrogen for too long a time.

I a m very sure that my temp was much lower on estrogen, because I was

monitoring my temperature regularly during and after estrogen

replacement in order t o find out if I was hypothyroid.

Lovette, I think a screwed up body temp goes with lyme. Mine runs very low

most of the time which is not supposed to be the case if you have babesia. I

too had a hyst about 2 1/2 yrs ago, but have never taken est. Take care

Best wishes on a new year of progress

Carol,

Have you had your thyroid checked? Before I was diagnosed with Graves

disease, I was cold all the time, even on the warmest of days and I was so

painfully thin, my ankle bones used to bang together and bleed. I have the

same feeling of a rise in temperature as you do and am always opening the

windows and everyone can't believe I can feel so hot. I radiate heat too.

Anyone standing near me can feel the heat from me. I sure don't have your

weight loss problem tho. In fact, I can't lose weight. When I feel feverish

and hot I put it down to infection, as I usually have swollen glands too. I

think being on long term AP will eventually eliminate these symptoms. At least

that's my hope for us. My gp wanted me to try Celebrex and I declined. I

think I'll just stick to the AP and anti inflams and see what happens.

I hope you feel better soon Carol. If you could gain some weight perhaps you

wouldn't feel so cold. When I began the thyroid medication and gained weight I

felt so much better. I lost that dizzy, spacey feeling I used to live with for

years, not knowing what it was.

Good luck Carol.

Group, I have dermatomyositis. My muscles are wasted and I am down to 100lbs.

I have been taking my temperature 2 or 3 times a day and it is generally between

99F and 101F. I feel cold most of the day - usually the tops of my hands and

feet and across my shoulders. At night I get quite warm. Only occasionally do I

sweat. From what I have read on body temperature regulation it depends on skin

blood flow; infection, viral or baterial, inflammation, administration of some

drugs, dehydration. I drink at least 6 glasses of water a day;eat as much as I

can to try and put weight on. Am I doomed for now due to the fact I have skin

It sounds to me like you may want to investigate thyroid operation. Dr

Brownstein wrote a book on natural hormones and said that the body temp is a

good indicator, and maybe it wouldn't show up in just blood testing.

I take an enzyme supplement--one from health store (nothing special--has 3

enzymes in it) and that has helped me gain weight finally and put muscle back

on. Not a lot, but a more healthy look now and I am able to do so much more

with the strength.

Hi ,

I always run a low temp - usually 97.7 though lately it has been around 96.7.

I've been this way for as long as I can remember. Like you, when my temp runs

around 99 - I am really sick. No one has had answers for me either. I've been

told it is poor circulation.

Just curious... Hope someone has answers!

...how many of us on this list run a LOW temp.?

Mine for as long as I remember has always stayed between 96.7 - 97

degrees. No kidding.

I also run a low temperature - usually around 97.6. I just wish the doctors

would realize that this is the norm for me. When it goes up to the standard

" normal " of 98.6, they should know that it is high. Even though I feel pretty

crummy at those times, they act as though nothing is wrong and NEVER recognize

that my temperature is elevated. What kind of wisdom is it that says you aren't

running a temperature unless it measures 100 or more? I guess I'll never

understand...

Dear Susie: My temperature normally goes back and forth between the same ranges

and like you if I have a 99* temp or higher, I am really ill. Strange that with

all of us out here, someone doesn't do a study to find out why. Most doctors

and nurses just put you off if you tell them that it's always low and that you

really feel bad. My mother, her whole life, had the same and she had arthritis

and now I suspect that she also had FM. My daughter has many of the pre-cursor

things that I started out with many years ago that eventually led to the FM and

has the low temp besides. Our blood pressures range in the low range also -

100/60 to 110/75 and when I reach 120 to 130 over 80 or so, I can really feel

the effects of it. It will be interesting to hear from everyone on this

subject. Jan in CA +/:=)

I have been this way since childhood my mom said. Her mom's stayed low

also. And she had arthritis, but did well with her arthritis (mild). My

mom has arthritis. But hers is mild also. My sister has LUPUS..

My mom runs a " low temp. " always, but hers in the mid 97's.

One of my three daughters is like mine, and my sisters is like mine. Our

temps run almost identical.

My daughter (age 29) is having trouble conceiving, and my sister never

did conceive. They never could find the reasons why my sister could not

have baby.

All the THYROID tests I had were " within normal " ranges.

So is this THYROID test missing something???

If I get a temp of 99+ I am extremely sick/throwing up usually.

Just curious if anyone else is like this.

By the way... my PLATELETS are always HIGH. So what causes this?

Hi Jan,

I'm exactly the same way. I have a temp of 99.4 right now, and that's

really high for me. My temp has only gone above 100 degrees once in the

past 5 years. My blood pressure is always around 105/70, sometimes lower.

For it to be borderline high yesterday was like it skyrocketing, since mine'

s always so low.

Love and hugs,

Carol

Let me add my name to the list--my normal temp is between 96.7 and

97.3, and I also have low bp, usually 98 or 99 over 60 or less. My

daughter is the same. Over the weekend when my temp was 99, then

went up over 100, I knew I was sick with something. Went to the walk

in clinic yesterday, and they actually LISTSENED when I said that my

normal temp. was very low, and this guy agreed (well, it was 100 by

then, and the nurse said that wasn't very high, but the doctor

overruled her.) The reproductive endocrinoligist my daughter and I

go to thinks the low bp, low temp, and RA are related to our PCOS,

but he has only just started a study on that. He is the first doctor

that told my daughter she did NOT need surgery to remove ovarian

cysts, and within 3 months of going to him, she was pregnant--with

triplets! He also reduced the strength of the hormone replacement I

was taking, and has given me a referral to a rheumy in Indianapolis.

Have you monitored your temp during a flare? I was thinking of

making a diary of flares & temperature.

Have a pleasant day,

Judi in IN

Yah, people like my former doctor. I told him I had been running a

temperature occasionally, and he asked when. I told him mainly at

night it was the highest, and he wrote on my chart, " Night Sweats. "

That's why he's my FORMER doctor!

My " normal " temperature is 97.4 and when it hits 99 I am burning up. Whenever

I get sick I tell the dr what my temp would be in their terms.....and then if

I go in there and it is only 99.4 or something..I remind them to look in my

chart at all my so called normal low temps and compare.Judy in AZ

Susie,

I always run a subnormal temperature also. 97 point whatever is my usual.

If I get to 100 during an illness, I'm darned sick. My thyroid tests always

come back normal too.

Yeah, har, har! I think such an attitude is flippant, ill informed, and

plain bad medicine! They just write you off because you don't fit their

notion of what is correct! I was SO surprised when my current doctor (of the

holistic persuasion) sat up and took notice when I showed him my temp chart!

It was the first time in 30 years any doc showed interest in the fact that I

was freezing all the time! It was based on my low body temps (along with all

the obvious, debilitating symptoms of hypothyroidism) that he put me on the

WTS treatment.

Dear Barb,

When I first consulted my present, holistic doc, I gave him my chart of body

temps that I'd done under the arm. I'd read about doing it that way on the

Broda website. Based on those temps, he put me on the WTS treatment

program.

Since then I switched to taking the oral temps b/c I'm on the 's

treatment. Taking your temp daily at all is annoying! Trying to lie

absolutely still in bed in the morning and not being able to get up and go to

the bathroom first is the frustrating part of the BB method. Having to take

three oral temps during the day and then average them for the WTS method

takes time and setting an alarm or some other reminder so that's annoying,

too. But at least I can move around when I do the oral temp taking. Since

the daily temperature reading is an important diagnositic of how well I'm

doing, I manage to get three temps in on most days plus a heart rate count.

Here's a link on how to take temps w/ the underarm method:
