Guest guest
Dear Carol...I hope that you are feeling better today. Feeling crummy just wears you down. I have found that the Zithromax doesn't clear up my bronchitis or sinus infections and it usually takes a 14-30 day prescription of Cipro or Augumentin. I know that the drs like to save the big guns but if this 2nd round doesn't work I hope he gives you something else. I am not going to join the diet program but I wish all of you great success. I feel as though I am under too much stress right now and don't want to add anything else. The more days that I am unemployed, the more depressed I am getting. I can't stand the thought that once again I have to start over and prove myself especially when I had the as " close to perfect as you can get " job. It really has been like a divorce I didn't want. Corporate America has no loyalty to their employees. The FM makes it so difficult for me to learn new things quickly and that really erodes my confidence. The first night that I doubled the sulfafalazine, I woke up moaning all night with the worse headache I have had in a long time. The headache stayed with me until the next day. I don't as of yet know if this was a side effect. When I hear all of the stories of the medications we try hoping each time for relief, I wonder if the best course is pain medication. I hope you are all having a good day. Guest guest
Hi Iris, I'm sorry you're feeling down right now. Looking for a job has to be my least favorite thing to do. You know what, though? The times I've done it I've always ended up with an even better job than I had prior, although it sounds like you had a really great job. I'm sorry your last employer turned out to be so disloyal. Unfortunately, most employers main concern is the bottom line. I'll say a prayer that you find something soon. I'll keep in mind what you said about the Cipro and Augmentin. Usually the Zithromax works well for me, but I might need something stronger with the MTX and Remicade. Much love, Carol RE: [ ] Just talking Dear Carol...I hope that you are feeling better today. Feeling crummy just wears you down. Guest guest
Sometimes we need to listen to OUR bodies...not the Doctors tounge. And EDUCATE ourselves, and read, read, read about our diseases, cures, drugs, etc. ...and join THIS GROUP! I too, had severe headaches the first 2 days. But did not even think of it being the med. Until about 2 days after I started it, the severe headache kicked in after I took it that day, AND then a Severe bout of, down on your knees, high abdominial pain and cramping. (I have had 2 ulcers, and never had such pain!) I thought I was having a heart attack! Still I did not put it with med, until the next day when I took it again. He (jerk Dr. at the time) told me it had NO side effects and was one of the " safest " things to take. When I called him about this, he informed me that it was not the med sulfalazine. So when I went on the MTX the next week, I asked for a base line chest x-ray (I heard about this on this list). He said that that was not required, and that my lungs SOUNDED perfectly healthy!! I asked about Folate. He said I did not need that! And later when I reported my bleeding gums, vaginal bleeding (went through menopause 10 years prior!) and lungs hurting, I called him and was told they were NOT side effects of MTX he STATED that none of those symptoms were, and is not a side effect of this drug...and to go see my GYN about the bleeding, and dentist about my gums bleeding!!! A few weeks later, I told him how bad my lungs felt and how my husband even complained he could hear me TRYING to breath in the next room...all he did was listen to my heart and lungs...he said, " Nope! Clear as a bell! Come back in 3 months! " Then, less than two weeks after that doctors visit, (the day after Christmas 2001) I came down with severe case of Pneumonia and kept it for 3 1/2 months. I live in a small town. The Emergengy Clinic I had to be rushed to here, (for the pneumonia) is staffed with PAC's, and they all said that they had NEVER seen lungs quite like this on an x-ray. And even charted they thought it may be the MTX. That was last Christmas... This was when " Dr.Not A. Side Effect " was then " fired " . I better shut up...I don't want to get wound up on that man again! He definately got his license out of a Cracker Jacks Box. Ha! That's what I should have called him! Dr. Cracker Jack! Though, even that would have probably went over his head. ~Susie P.S. I wish we could add a page to our Arthritis list Web Site so we could all post our " personal side effects " of all these drugs. Have a page for " Good results " and " Bad Results/Side effects " . Would be very informative for us all, and any new members who were wondering about a certain drugs side effects. Guest guest
Sorry that you are feeling so blue, Iris. You've got a lot of spirit and unique talents - I can tell. There is a job for you out there. I know it can't be easy to have lost your job, but don't give up hope on finding something you will like. Glad to read in another post that reducing the sulfasalazine helped with the headache problem. Guest guest
Thanks for your caring, . It really means a lot to me. Well...I decided that a week on the pity pot was time well spent but now I have to pick myself up and get on with things. I am waiting for my background clearance so I can begin substitute teaching. I still volunteer at the schools, mostly in the library. My husband is trying to fix the heater on the pool. It has been down for over 3 weeks and I can really tell the difference in not exercising. I have began to stiffen up and hurt at a higher level than normal. I am still trying to make an appointment with the pain management clinic but my old doc is making it hard. They have been requested by the clinic, twice, to forward my records but have not done so. At least I got some of them in the mail. After I bring them what I have, my records must be reviewed before I can set an appointment. In the meantime I have a month's worth of medicine to hold me. I hope that will be enough. Thanks again. Guest guest
I hope your background check comes out clean, Iris, LOL! Seriously, I like schools. I've considered going back to substitute teach or volunteer. In our area we also have some interesting literacy and mentoring programs. I'm thinking about participating in one of those, too. Sorry that things are hard right now. I hope you can return to swimming soon. I know that exercise is very important to me and how I feel. Your old doctor and staff should be ashamed of themselves. Have you tried writing? It's possible that a letter explaining that they are holding up your pain treatment could help. To better days ahead, Re: [ ] Just talking > Thanks for your caring, . Guest guest
Hi (and Iris!) I graduated from college with a degree in Elementary Education. Although I never taught school formally, I have certainly used my education in many forms over the years. For the last 5 or 6 or maybe 7? years I have been an adult literacy tutor. It is a wonderful undertaking, very rewarding, and there are so many people who really need help! I find it startling even now, how many folks just can't read or can only barely read. There is also a program to help people learn English who speak another language. It is called, not surprising, English as a Second Language. I never got involved with that program, but always thought it looked interesting. I find, unfortunately, since the advent of RA that my fatigue level is such that it is a monumental effort to continue to meet with my student. We meet now for an hour, once a week, at 5:00 pm, right after I get off work. I'm lucky that we meet at a library right next door to my office. Still, I don't have the heart to quit, the need is so great. So, I say to both of you, go for it!! And I hope you find it as rewarding as I have over the years.
