Hi Carol,

Thanks so much. I don’t want to “count my chickens before they’re hatched”

(literally and figuratively speaking!) but I’m so excited, I hope everything

is signed by the end of the week and there are no hiccups.

I had to laugh at the being in nature but… not too far from the real world

and shopping – I’m exactly the same, I love it but can’t really picture

myself making my own butter and cheese and shopping once a year. The great

thing about this place is that it’s very close to the nearest town, not even

10 minutes from the entrance gate, so I can bushwack in style and still run

over to the shops if I run out of milk :-)! Mauritius is quiet small anyway

so you don’t get those farms miles away from nowhere like in bigger

countries, the towns and houses are all around the farms (they farm sugar

cane here) so they don’t feel like farms at all. In South Africa there are

huge farms in the middle of nowhere where the farmers only see

“civilization” for their big shopping stock-ups a few times a year.

We won’t be living there though as we are leasing the land with a few others

from the government (a 7 year renewable lease for another 7 years and so

on). We don’t want to go to the expense of building a real house and then

if they decide not to renew the lease one day we lose everything. Anyway I

think we’ll appreciate it so much more if we only go on weekends and

holidays, it makes it more special and the little inconveniences don’t bug

you at all. I would love to live somewhere like that permanently but it

would be far to expensive to actually buy the land, land is scarce here in

Mauritius and very very expensive. The government leases a lot of “forest”

land for hunting estates. The lessee then maintains and conserves the

forests so it costs the government less; the leases are not very expensive.

Sorry I seem to have gotten on a roll there LOL!

How are you feeling? Have you finally managed to shake off that infection?

I hope the Remicade is working its magic by now. You must be getting

excited for your holiday! I’ll pray you have a wonderful pain-free break.

By the way I’m with you for on our new lifestyle eating thing! I’m sure if

we are all encouraging eachother it will make it easier, my main aim is also

to be healthier and do more exercise, the weight loss would be an added

bonus but it’s not the main issue.

Let’s do it!

Love and hugs,

Heidi
