Guest guest
Thanks for the advice, Madeline -- yes, I was given Protonix in the hospital and it did seem to help. I'll call about that tomorrow. Re the sleeping, I'm just dealing with it. I once had a bad reaction to Ambien and have been gun shy about sleeping aids ever since. Xyrtec is about as strong as I'll take. Good to know others out there have similar issues....Madeline wrote: Ode to Prednisone...... LOL. Yes, I am very familiar with all ofthose symptoms. You can help the heartburn by taking a couple oftablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar before each meal. Also, ask for a script of Protonix. Much stronger than the Prilosec andwill control you during the step down much better. You were probablytaking it in the hospital. They usually administer it along with theIV steroids. Abdominal fullness - try eating more fresh fruits andveggies and less carbs (will also help control the weight gain) - asfar as appetite control. It is a lost cause as far as I have found. The best thing I can do is keep lots of broccoli and celery stickshandy. They are filling and nearly no calories. Shaking hands - mywhole body shakes. Sometimes I can feel my stomach and insidesfluttering (especially when I add the albuterol to the mix). Lack ofsleep, ask for a script of Ambien or if you have been on Ambien for awhile ask to change to a different one. Every six months or so I haveto switch them out. They tend to quit working. Just take it slow andeasy. It is very very hard to deal with the high level step down. Good luck.Madeline>> Good morning everyone!> > As I posted last week, I am 10 days post-hospital,> recovering nicely on the breathing front, but> struggling with the ramp-down on the huge doses of> steroids it took to get me breathing clearly again.> This is the highest dose of prednisone I've ever been> on, and for the longest period, and I'm experiencing> some side effects I've not seen before.
