Please forgive if this has been mentioned as I have not read every email. But what I would like to know is why is it so all fired important to make pjs flame resistant and not day clothes????? Not I get yesteryear when everybody and his niece stood with their back sides to gas heaters and fire places in the evening when it was nippy. But today most folks have central or electric heat that is usually not near the child. And if there is a floor heater then it is usually there durring the day to. So what is the big deal about making just pjs flame retardant??? And to be clear I would that we would have 100% cotton with nothing added. If Ihad my way we would be a world of organic everything.Susie ~littlelief wrote: Thanks Jeanie! The main reason for fire retardant PJ's and not every day clothes is

due to a suprising number of fires happening at night time when

everyong is asleep. Unless your child is sleeping in your bed, there

will be a laspse in the amount of time it takes to get to your child,

AND get out of the burning building. During the day, most often 1 or

more adults in a house hold is awake and therefore the time is cut

down on getting a sleepign child out of a house prior to them being

in any real danger to fires. But at night, sometimes that is not so,

KWIM. Fire retardant pj's or cotton pj's that are very snug and close

to the skin, are harder to set on fire, so there is less chances of

your child being fatally burned in a house fire. Even with

electric/gas central heat, there is still a risk that a fire can

start due to either a gas leak/or a wire going bad and catching on

fire behind the walls of your house. Dry wall catches on fire pretty

fast as well. Of course small electric heaters can pose a risk as

well if they are knocked over, or is a blanket comes to near or

covers the unit. If a small portable electric heater is kept on in a

small child's /infants room (not that I would ever rcommend you ever

leave a small space heater on in a room unattended, but let's face it

there are some who do that) Usually the heaters of today have a

safety feature that would cause the heater to shut down automatically

in that event, but that feature can be defective on protable heaters.

If a fire were to start in the room where a child was sleeping, then

the retardant pj's, or close cotton pj's (the snugger the pj's are to

your child, the less loose surface area that can actually catch on

fire, that is why you should use only tight cotton pj's on toddlers)

that would cut drastically down on the fire harming the child before

they are rescued. The reason for making just PJ's flame retartdant is

because more house fires happen at night, not during the day. There

are several 100% cotton PJ's on the market, my son has tons of them.

They are just made to fit quite snugg and close to the body. IMHO I

am happy that PJ's are fire retardant, It gives me a little bit of

piece of mind knowing that if, GOD forbid my house did catch on fire,

that because my son is wearing flame retardant, or snug cotton PJ's

that he would be at a smaller risk of getting fatally burned in the

time it took for me to get to the other side of my home to get him

out of his crib and then out the first available, and safe window or

door.
