Mom on statins

I recently started talking to my mom again after three years of

silence - we go through phases. I think mostly because we're both so

stubborn. She's always had weight and energy issues (the apple didn't

fall far from the tree - I'm still trying to get away from the

afternoon nap) and she's always been worried about not having health

insurance. When she got a job with good health benefits, the first

thing they did was put her on Benicor for high BP and statins (she

didn't know the brand). That was two years ago.

When I asked her if she was open to hearing about alternatives for

those things, she said " no, I've tried all that and I'm really

comfortable where I'm at with all this. " !!!! I didn't know what to

say, so I said nothing and have been praying for a way to send her

something or say something simple and compelling enough for her to

change her mind.

If I sent her the link to the Cholesterol Myths site (or even the book

if there is one) I know she'd never read it.

My mom is 60, tries to eat healthy and buy organic and is a real

foodie. I've never seen anyone cook like this woman. She likes carrot

juice and beets and greens and is even thinking about getting some

coconut oil. But as far as mainstream and alternative health issues,

she really is out of the loop. She likes her doc and has no idea the

lipid hypothesis has been turned on its ear.

Here's the part where I say there's a batch of organic, coconut

cookies in it for everyone with suggestions.
