Guest guest
Sharry, When Hannah Grace was an infant we did do the knee in belly thing and the warm towel. I wonder if it would benefit her now. Though I know that gas is not her problem. I know this much....next time I get enough money to bring her to a doctor it will be a different one!! I want someone who will listen to me and not just diagnose all babes with a stretched colon automatically. I want to get down to the bottom of this. I truly feel she has a motility problem. Like her muscles just won't push enough. My husband calls it a lazy colon. I call it a nightmare. Yet Hannah is sooooo happy (cept when she gets backed up you can see her get cranky). Guest guest
Thanks for your Reply Sharry!! And goodness!! I hope I didn't sound as if I was scolding or acccusing you of assuming things about Hannah. I think maybe my frustration with this illness has overflowed into my post. I do appologise!! No. I have not tried erithromyacin. Is this over the counter? Would I use it to see if her problem goes away while on it? How would it help diagnose? I am interested in anything I can do myself as funds are not there and we have no insurance, and the government has denied us any assistance cuz I choose to stay at home with my child and not get a job in place of my dh who is disabled. I have started a Work at Home Buisness making cloth toys and embellishing prefold diapers , but it is just starting up, and I don't expect a killing from it. So cheep is all I can do. Thanks for your time!! Susie ~ > > Dear Susie, > > I am so sorry you are going through all this. > > I just wanted to be clear though - I KNOW gas isn't the main problem for Hannah (or my guy.) I would never assume you as Mom just don't get it that's " it's only gas! " > > But for Aidan the gas gets trapped by the constipation and becomes a real aggravator to the problem. > > The real problem is the tone (high or low or mixed like Aidan) and coordination. EVerything else is secondary. Aidan can't let us poop out because his sphincters are too tight. But then the meds to treat it slow down his whole GI tract and now he has problems like Hannah getting it all to move through appropriately. So I do understand so much. > > But sometimes we can bandaid things here and there and at least make life more liveable while we search desperately for solutions. So I know helping her pass gas would by no means solve Hannah's problems - I just thought it might make sleep more peaceful and restful for her, so she could wake up ready to do the deed! :-) > > I hope you find answers....it is so frustrating. I know this is not a popular solution - but I thought I'd ask if you tried it just for diagnostics sake at least - have you tried erithromyacin? Some docs use it now in place of the GI motility meds that were banned or are rarely used now. (Most people don't realze a huge risk to taking Reglan is developing dystonia - my son's muscle spasm disorder). > > They also have new motility meds. I was pretty scared off of the zelnorm after the diarrhea warnings. But I just saw someone saying great things about the newest one - and wondered if at some point we should try it. (Amiza) or something. Sometimes I think meds are good because they can help diagnose problems - then we can search for natural alternatives to the meds that don't produce the same side effects. I don't feel that way about miralax - but I could see trying some other meds to see if they help and we can stabilize things then later try to keep stability by switching to natural solutions. E-myacin would probably be too hard on Aidan to try with his complex high and low tone in his GI tract. Don't know yet if that would eliminate Amiza too - not sure anyone would know the answer to that yet because it's so new! But I like you am still searching for that perfect natural solution, while recognizing that I am dealing with a tone problem that is not easy to " snap our fingers " and fix. > > *hugs*, > > sharry > > > >
Guest guest
" One of the issues I guess is whether you are dealing with slow motility or poor coordination with motility. do you have any thoughts there? " Not really as I didn't know there was also poor coordination with motility. Sigh. Just one more consideration of what this problem may be. " All this motility stuff stinks. " So many times I just want to bury my head in the sand and deny that this is even happening. I just always wonder how can this be??? Then I see some of your children who are much worse off.......
