, FYI If your child has a problem with eggs, the flu shot is made in egg shells and the vaccine contains bacteria from chicken eggs, you might want to stay away from itlittlelief wrote: Hi Susie,It is hard - they do want to eat what everyone else is eating! I am doing the same diet as my son (except sometimes I sneak something like a cookie after he's in bed!, but I think I'm realizing I'm sensitive to gluten as well because whenever I do this I feel terrible for the

rest of the night & half the next day!).Gluten is in a lot of things - aside from the grains it's in: including wheat, barley, rye, oats (Unless you specifically buy "gluten-free oats"), spelt, there are 'hidden' sources of it: malt, soy sauce (again, unless you check for gluten free status), honey-baked ham, ambiguous "Food Starch" (some foods specify the source of the starch), etc. etc. Here's a list at "www.celiac.com" - http://www.celiac.com/articles/182/1/Unsafe-Gluten-Free-Food-List-Unsafe-Ingredients/Page1.htmlThere's a lot of great info at sites for celiacs and a lot of blogs out there by gluten-free people. A lot of recipes at the blogs and at the Yahoo! GF/CF recipes group. That said, most of the gluten-free alternatives call for using rice flour and/or corn starch/flour which can be problematic for

some kids as well. i've been using quinoa flour and buckwheat flour and am going to experiment with garbanzo and fava flours and possibly millet flour. I made blueberry muffins this morning (GF/CF and egg free) with the buckwheat and quinoa flours. DS loved them & I thought they were pretty good, too!I can tell you that for us, when I just did a "trial" of gluten-free'ish (meaning, we eliminated obvious gluten - no toast or cereal for breakfast, no bread/sandwiches at meals, etc.) my chronically constipated guy had a bm 3 out of 4 days, starting about 2 days into the trial. (that's with no added magnesium or laxative). We did add in digestive enzymes and more potent probiotics at the same time, so i don't know if that made a difference or not? (he still takes vitamins, fiber, and fish oils, too.)I'd love to hear from others, too, about the results of going gluten free. I'm wondering if it is similar to cleansing

other 'toxins' from the body & if he will go through cycles of this or if the improvements will continue? I've heard it can take a year or more to completely get rid of the effects of the gluten if it, in fact, was irritating the GI tract.Lately, we added egg back in (based on testing "negative") and he's been more horrifically constipated than ever. Started back at egg free yesterday, we'll see if that helps. The flours can be expensive but I think making it all yourself is less expensive in the end than buying the commercially prepared GF stuff (esp. if you want to try to limit the amount of rice and/or corn). I found the quinoa flour will be cheaper than at the store if I order in bulk on line (6 packages - not an overwhelming amount) from the manufacturer (www.quinoa.net). I'm still new to this, so am still seeking cost-effective ways of doing this.We also do a *lot* more fruits and veggies (he's expanding

his palette slowly - trying new stuff - liked cabbage last night for the first time) - I just have to keep offering it and eventually he tries it. Baked potato chips (from the Kettle brand - not Lay's baked or pringles, I think they both have wheat in them) are a treat/snack he loves. The "Snap Peas" from Trader Joe's (if you have one) are a good snack, but they do have rice and I think corn oil, so we use those sparingly on our rotation days. hope others will share experiences with this - I'm so hopeful it's going to continue improving my son's situation. . . .
