Guest guest
Thanks Kathi, How did you know? I just love these candies. I have a list of sites for these also. The food network has a program called Food Finds and they find a lot of places like this and another program called Unwrapped which shows how some of these candies are made. You must have been reading my mind. Remember the days when you could go to the candy store with a quarter and come out with a whole bag of candy? Those were the days. They had the best candy too. It was a treat to go to the store with my dad and he would get us those bubble gum cigars. Do you remember them? They had the greatest taste. One thing that I haven't been able to find is the very large packs of gum. The ones where the sticks were side by side in one big piece. They were about a foot long and wrapped just like the regular size gum. We used to get them in our Christmas stockings every year. I would love to get some for that same purpose, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere, even on these types of sites. But it is so much fun looking. Ooohhh the memories. Thank you so much!!! Guest guest
Kathi...the candy bars in sections were called Seven Up Bars...they had a choice of light or dark chocolate. There is a website called www.hometowncandy.com that carries some old time items - not just candy. And you can pull up the name of something you are looking for, and they'll know if they are still made or not. Unfortunately, the candy I wanted most was a Seven Up bar and they are no longer made. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Love You Much, My Okie Friend.... Tess.

Guest guest
Fun stuff, Kathi! My brother and I used to go to the dime store (my kids don't even understand that phrase) often and look over the vast selection of candy on the shelves and in the big glass fishbowls. How best to spend that dime or quarter? Remember when Banana Splits were two for a penny? We loved those flying saucers. The outside remided us of the communion hosts that the priests seemed to be so stingy with. My mother took pictures of the both of us (black and white film, of course) at the beach in our matching white terry cloth cover-ups posing with those candy cigarettes. So glamorous. We were so little. My younger sisters weren't even born yet. Now I'm feeling old! [ ] RE: Old time candy OT > Old Time Candy Online > > Here are a few links to sites that have old time > candy. Guest guest
Hi Kathe...About a year ago, I bought some candy cigarettes from the hometowncandy.com place....the minty ones colored red at the end to look like they're burning. I left a " pack " on the coffee table to see what Em would think (yes, she does smoke, but not at home). She picked them up with a quizzical look on her face, then said, " Moooommmmm! " with a smile. I said, " Honey, smoke these all you want! " I have a photo from about 1960 where my sis who was 7 then, is leaning against something with a candy cigarette....posing like a glamour girl! She was so cute with her blond pixie haircut. What a hoot!!! Love & Hugs.... Tess
Guest guest
Hi Kathi....I remember my mom & I, when I was pretty young getting Seven Up Bars for a treat...she always got dark chocolate, I always got milk chocolate. When I did my search for them last year they said they had discontinued making them. I could REALLY go for the chocolate covered jelly-candy section right about now. I would trade any other section for the jelly-candy one!!! I must repeat my sentiments from yesterday... Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Much Love... I remember candy cigarettes. Boy, those cigars and cigarettes would certainly be considered politically incorrect these days, wouldn't they? When I was a kid, I was lucky to have a nickel. I would have really been rich with a quarter. Sue in NC
Guest guest
I don't remember the seven up bars..but I do remember the button candy on paper strips, and the wax orange pops...mqrge Re: [ ] RE: Old time candy OT > I remember those being called seven up bars too....but last time I had one > they only had 5 different sections.......I remember being disappointed > ......that was 12 yrs ago....a shame they dont make them any more...Judy in > az > > >
Guest guest
Hi Judy...I'm not surprised about the Seven Up bars..less product - more money is the way it seems to go. I seem to remember whenever I last had one you ddn't have a choice of dark or milk chocolate any longer. Does anyone remember the chocolate drops that came in a pretty, shiny colored cardoard-like tube - they sold them at the movies. Salivating but under control...
