Guest guest
Thanks a for the prednisone info. I very much want to stop the 5 mg pred which I take every other day as I know it no longer works. However I am afraid of going into a severe reaction from stopping it. Do you have any info to tell me if: 1. Is it even possible to stop taking low dose prednisone after being on it for a few years? Are the adrenal glands still able to produce cortisol? 2. What are the signs of adrenal crisis? I Love how these doctors put you on these meds then tell you, I don't think you will ever be able to stop them. Shouldn't they tell you that when they put you on it DUH??? Thank God I have no osteoporosis according to the recent bone scan so I am OK there. But I do have a narrowed renal artery, reasons unknown ...which causes hypertension Thanks for all of your help girlfriend...When are you coming to see Mickey? Still " lost " in FL Love Joanne
Guest guest
Joanne, When you get yourself settled and find a rheumatologist, I would express your concerns and ask about tapering off of the prednisone. Most doctors won¹t taper long term steroid users faster than 1mg per week, but that could be to much for some people. Everyone is different. Some people may have to do a slower taper. Withdrawal symptoms may include joint pain, fever and malaise. Some people can never stop taking prednisone. Because you are on alternate day therapy, I think you chances may be good. The alternate day therapy is supposed to be easier on the adrenols. You¹re very lucky to be on long term and have good bone density. I¹ve never taken steroids and I don¹t have good bone density. Go figure. We¹re all different. We usually come to Florida in February, but we haven¹t made any plans yet. We¹re thinking about saving the vacation time for the summer. My parents go down every winter, but may not go this year, so we¹ve made no specific plans yet. It will take time to find your way around. Think of this as an adventure. I know you must feel like a fish out of water, but it will get better. Give it a chance. Just keep looking out the front windshield! a > Thanks a for the prednisone info.
