Guest guest
Ok, here's the thing. things have been going great!!! Wonderful in fact ! the sorbitol's been working like a dream, he had an GI appt in the begining of Feburary, and up until then had been having BM's every other day or so. The week we took him to the GI follow up, it'd been 5 days since his last BM, not unusual for him, and usually on that 5th day he has a good bm, followed by several days of good BM's. WEll, we are closing in on the 6th day!! He has not had a BM since Tuesday of last week!!! Grant it, it was a good one, very soft but formed, the good soft serve icecream consistancy that the GI doc wants him to have WE were doing so well that hte GI has put him on a PRN basis. But now i'm at a loss!! i mean OMG 6 days, that is the longest he's ever gone. He is still eating, and isn't cranky or anythign. he is passing gas OMG is he passing gas. I've bumped up his sorbitol to 1.5 tablespoons, and usually when he gets that we have big blow outs! today is his 2nd day on that, and nothing. I give him Mag every other day, and that will usually do it too, but soo far nada. So, today I gave him an herbal kidlax, and nothing so far. He didn't drink much of his sorbitol solution today, this is because his father got him up this morning and for some unknown reason this man cannot seem to read the simple instructions on the bottle and give him the tbsp of sorbitol first thing in teh mornign, when he is thristy and will down it all!! So, he got about 1/4 dose. so prior to putting him to bed, i gave him another tsp, this time on a spoon and not in his drink to make sure he gets it. So..... i'm hoping for a BM. at this point i don't care if it is a huge blow out and i have to change his bedding. i just want him to have a BM!!!!! We do tummy massages, and i'm telling you girls, his belly is soft as can be. I can feel nothing in there at all. prior to starting sorbitol, i used to could feel the poopie in there when he go a few days when i did his tummy massages. But since the sorbitol, I can't feel the poop at all in his tummy. I quess this sorbitol is keeping is poopy nice and watery and harder for me to feel when it is in the belly. But, then again, his poopies always come out in either a soft serve ice cream or thick chunky pudding consistancy, so maybe htat is why I can no longer feel poop when massaging his tummy. I don't know wht else to do. i mean, his poop is as soft as ever, it is never hard, and he never strains anymore like he used to. I mean now he will just go off on his own, and then have his BM and come tell me to change him. even if he goes his 5 day stretches. i find out he's pooped either by him telling me, or by following the smell. It is soo much different than it used to be with hours upon hours of straing (this started very very early, even as a newborn he had issues with straining) to produce a nice soft stool. Not to mention that he is still on his flax seed meal, and oatmeal cookies. flax seed oil in his fruit smoothies etc. The only difference that has occured since his GI appt was he got a slight cold and had a very runny nose. so at night to help him sleep a bit, i gave a half a dose of an antihistimine/decongestant for about 3 nights (at night only mind you) then we are back to going this many days without a BM. could i have screwed his systme up?? PLEASE GOD PLEASE LET HIM POOP!! ok thanks for letting me cry on your shoulders will keep you updated Beth
