Guest guest
Yahoo!! Im so happy for him!! I just posted a few minutes ago on your other post!! That is so awesome that you found a great ped!! Im now kinda wondering if I should have waited an extra day on my sons enema(I avoid those as much as possible)! But I guess we just gotta go on instincts! He just couldnt really go another day, going by his symptoms! Im just so glad things got moving! We go through so much distress worrying and then things work out! Sometimes I think it is harder on us parents(mentally anyways)! Jennie wrote: He finally went! I took him to his new ped today, btw i love this office already and it was his first visit!! totally opened to the natural approach on anything.Anyway, so we saw the nurse practitioner (since this was a work in appt, he see's the reg doc on the 27th for his 3 yr WBC) and she was just soooo nice! She listened to everything i said, agreed with it all, listened to my concerns with miralax, and even agreed that for long term usage in cronically constipated children it wasn't the best thing to use, specially when there where more natural ways to handle it. She was very detailed, and wanted to know his whole history, and took her time with both of us. we were there for about an hr talking, well into her lunch hour i found out as we left, and she was just thrilled to talk to alikeminded mom!Anyway, back to the point, she felt his tummy and i mean really felt it. She felt around every square inch of his tummy and took a good 10 mins to really feel around. She told me she felt no stool. I had felt the same, but thought for sure i was missing something, but nope! no masses, no obvious signs of poop. Basicaly the poop was soo soft in there we couldnt' feel it. She then listened to his tummy, and said his bowel sounds were perfect, he even passed alot of gas while there, and she said that was an excellent sign that things where moving. She didnt' order an xray due to her not being able to palpate an obvious mass in his tummy, she actually said "after all it is exposing him to radiation, no matter how small we want to not rush to an xray" I could have hugged her! She said to keep doing what i was doing with his sorbitol and mag - cit. she then said " i want you to try something. Get him so pedilyte and see if he will take that, it may be that since he is drinking soo much plain water, that he may have messed his balance up a bit of electrolytes and that could throw off his pooping as well." I was again amazed, a simple natural answer !! We then talk about a few more things, i couldnt' believe how much we agreed on things! I havent' felt this good in years and my child had still not pooped. Well later this evening he started to complain about his tumm hurting (not suprising, it was after all the 8th day since we'd seen a BM) so he asked to sit on the potty. the first time he didnt' do anything so i took him off after 30 mins (he wanted to sit that long) and went to clean the kitchen. The only thing he'd done htat first tme was pass alot of gas. Then about 30 mins later he asked to go again. So off to the potty. and this time he pooped!!! He sat there for about 20 mins and pooped!!! It was basically like lumpy pudding consistancy, which explains why we couldn't feel any stool in the colon. But there were definetly formed poop in there, cause not only could you hear it hit the water in plops (sorry TMI) but you could see the formed pieces in the potty once he was done. Poor baby had alot of gas in there, cause between poops he'd pass gas like crazy. He immediately felt better! I'm just soo happy about the fact that he pooped!!! the potty is just an added bounus, cause i dont' care where he poops as long as he does. So, now it's back to the regular every day sorbitol and every other day mag-citrate, and hopefully he will get back on the right pooping track and go back ot pooping every 3 days or so. I just pray to GOD we dont' have another week like this one! I tell you girls, i was reallly worried. Thanks for listening Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search. Guest guest
Thanks Jennie. I think your right it is harder on us sometimes then the kids. the worry, the dread of OMG what if it turns out that he's laying in my arms crying in pain. It is sad how many times i've 2nd quessed myself. I mean sometimes when it was bad I thought " am I wrong to not use miralax?) and then the problem went away, he was doing fine for months! I mean no going more than 4-5 days MAX without a poop. Even prior to his GI appt. And since his initial GI appt. (back in November the 13th he saw the GI for hte first time) and we started the sorbitol he's been fine. I mean pooping like a champ, straining disapeared, and I guess i fell inta complancey (sp) and almost forgot he had a pooping problem. I mean the sorbitol was doing a great job. ANd then BAMMM! He had a regular great BM that tuesday, jus tlike always. NO strainng, no nothing. And then we went for 7 straight days with NOTHING. I was once again faced (just for a second mind you) those awful doubts and 2nd quessing. I even fleeting thought of using the miralax!!! I was soo shocked the thought even entered my head. I don't give enemas, or at least i haven't had to thank GOD. his ped told me that they rather I not do that, and only do it if i checked with them first. Cause it can be soo tramatic to a young child . Thankfully he went. THank the good LORD!!. Now it is just a wait and see game again. I feel as if i'm back to square one though. I'm worried already that it will be 7 days again and it scares me that i'm thinking that way. I'm trying not to be overly worried, cause i know he can sense that. but OMG is is soo hard not to be. I mean i'm already in dread mode, KWIM. *sigh* i just feel like it's all my fault, i gave this to him, he got it from me, KWIM. *sigh* His ped even asked if he'd been tested for Hisbrugh (sp) (the nerve problem ) diesease, i said no he hadnt' but they wonder if he might need to be tested for it. But htey want to wait and see. So i will do that I quess. just live each day and celebrate every single poop and never again take poop for granted, or drop in that complacent place that he will poop tomorrow. KWIM> Thanks again! Y'all's support means sooo very mch He finally went! Guest guest
I'm glad he went... talk to them about adding a source of fiber -- not a lot, just a little bit... I'm thinking of my own dd how if the things I give her makes the stool tooo soft, then she doesn't go for a while either...but with a little bit of fiber (we use fiber choice chewables most of the time), then it does help to provide some 'mass' and 'form' to the stool, so then that helps increase the frequency to about every other day. Guest guest
Thanks for the advice. He gets a good amount of fiber. he is on flax seed meal which has fiber in it. I also give him lots of fruits and veggies high in fiber. He eats whole grain pastas, and whole wheat bread when he wants it. I use to give benefiber, but stopped it when it didn't do anything for his constipation, and I switched to flax seed meal. I dont' want to give tooo much fiber, cuase too much can cause constipation as well. So when i started putting flax seed meal in his cookies and meals, i substituted the flax seed meal for the benefiber. > > I'm glad he went... talk to them about adding a source of fiber -- not > a lot, just a little bit...
