I spoke to our ped today and told her we have to get my DD off the

miralax because I think it's causing her out of control anxiety and

tantrum type behavior. My DD is 5 1/2 and has been on Miralax daily

for 3+ years. The ped feels it's best to go the route of switching to

Maltsupex(sp?) by slowly increasing the dose of the Maltsupex and

decreasing the miralax by a 1/4 of her normal dose every 3-4 days. I

hope this works and it is the root cause to her behaviors...if her

behaviors (anxiety/tantrums) don't improve in 2 weeks of being

completely off the Miralax then she will need to see a neuropsych and

be evaluated. I really think it's the Miralax....my DD was not mean

and nasty and so anxious before the Miralax and it's just progressively

gotten to the point now where she can't contain her tantrums/anxiety.

Has anyone tried or heard anything about maltsupex?

,

no, I haven't tried maltsupex, but I can tell you that the anxiety/tantrum is definetely from the miralax, my dd still has it after 8 years, but the anxiety is worse when she has gas and or needs to go. This has been a mystery to us, because we can't figure out why it comes and goes with the gas and or holding. There are several people who I've spoke to that says the same thing, I would stop immediately, it's clearly an indication and the body is alerting you that something is wrong. Please go into the files section and you'll find the FDA advese reaction (FOIA) reports and you'll find the side affects of anxiety all over the 869 reports, along with homicidal ideations in a 5 year old, from this medication.

Inside the e-mail, there is a blue box, click on files..........trust me, it will improve if you take her off, it breaks my heart what they are doing to these poor children.

sincerely

I have not tried the Maltsupex, but I noticed in your posting "if her behaviors don't improve in 2 weeks of being completely off the Miralax, then she will need to see a neuropsych..." Please be cautious of this. My ds also had major tantruming issues when on the Miralax. When we cut his dose down slowly, we saw an increase in behaviors (I didn't think it could get worse, but it did). It took a while for him to calm down. He's been off for almost a year now and when he doesn't get his supplements on a regular basis, his behaviors increase. Do you plan on supplementing at all as you decrease and remove the Miralax? In our ds' situation, I believe that's whats making a difference behaviorally and physically for him. Either way, please consider giving it a little more time than 2 weeks for the eval. If you check old posts, you will see that many of our kids experienced some serious behavior issues with coming off the Miralax.

Best of luck. :)
