Guest guest
Hi a, Somehow missed this latest virus threat. When I clicked on your link, I got a message that the story was no longer available. I include the following link from cnet regarding bugbear. Until this year, I have never had a virus on any computer. The proliferation of junk email has delivered about 4 viruses so far this year. Fortunately, Norton has caught them and I have been able to delete them before any damage was done. The last time I visited one of my friends whom I help support her computer endeavors, she had 25 viruses in isolation! She had a brand new fancy dancy computer I set up for her. We put on Norton somewhere in the first month of ownership. For whatever reason, she gets virus attacks regularly. I've been using ihatespam to control unwanted email. Also, change the layout of my email after it first comes in so that when I click on a message it doesn't open in a panel. I delete all messages I don't recognize or want in conjunction with telling ihatespam which messages I consider spam and never want to see again. Guest guest
I have been using Norton for years, too, and I've never had a problem with viruses, Suzanne. I have a few more tips for the group: It is essential, even if one has Norton or another anti-virus program, to update it very frequently (get the new virus definitions online) and then run a scan of your computer (a lot of people forget to do this - a key second step!). I do these AT LEAST once a week. One should always have virus protection enabled and have the other tasks scheduled. Also, it is very important, if you are using Windows, to update your software online frequently. Don't forget to update Internet Explorer, too! Update your email program as well. Security patches for these products come out very often. Finally, don't give out your email address indiscriminately, don't open mail from sources you don't recognize, don't visit sleazy sites and click on and open things, don't reply to spam (even to be removed from a mailing list), and don't open attachments unless absolutely necessary. If you do want to open an attachment from a trusted source, scan it first with your anti-virus software (which has been very recently updated or updated immediately before). Guest guest
Suzanne, Bugbear is the worse yet and I hope everyone keeps updated. I too have become very picky about opening email. Your friend is lucky that you set her virus program up for her! The worse thing about this bugbear is that you don¹t have to open the attachment to activate it. That¹s why it¹s spreading so fast. But it is mainly hitting people that don¹t update the virus programs, so if we¹re all diligent, we should be safe. a > Hi a, > > Somehow missed this latest virus threat.
