So how do they get the nurses to work NYE? At our hospital we all have to

work so much of the holidays that NO ONE would volunteer to work it. We hate

taking call because we usually get called in due to lack of staff. I, myself

had to be on call Thanksgiving Day, & work Christmas & New Years Day. On top

of that I am part time! I wish our hospital would cancel some inductions at

the end of the year so we could have a break.

Carlene..that's a lot of holidays to work for a part-timer. Our hospital

policy is part time works only one of the 3 major holidays, and fortunately,

we have enough people that we don't have on-calls.

We actually had an OB call Friday during the day to schedule and elective C/S

for 2345pm on Dec. 31st (he was serious) Anesthesia refused to agree to it

tho, so now we are taking bets that he will have the pt.come to his office at

10 pm that night, rupture her membranes and have her show up by 10:30 to HAVE

to have her c/s that night. He is that kind of a publicity seeker. Time

will tell. Lori
