Guest guest
Hi all, I had a member write me offlist--they were going through old archived messages and saw that I had written about Tuina, which is a chinese massage, utilizing acupuncture points, but no needles. Just fingertip massage. Anyway, our experience was that for my dd, it would produce a normal looking bowel movement...there IS something to those points. So here is my private reply to the person just in case anyone else might be interested in giving it a try... for my daughter though, her system would keep changing and I still use the tuina on her, but there is still some underlying problem that it is not 'fixing' fully. BUT, I do remember being in contact with some parents who said the tuina was the fix for their kids, so it is definitely worth consideration... W Hi -- well, I will check my work computer, but I am not sure I still have the write-up... a year ago or so, we ended up getting a new computer and so I'm not sure if I saved all of my old word documents or not. I will check... As far as a resource for tuina, I have not purchased this video, but I think this is your best bet...even with my write-up, I think it would have been pretty hard to follow unless you 'saw it' in person...and this video is probably going to illustrate it visually for you. So I would definitely give this a try: http://www.bodyharmonics.co.uk/shop/video-constipation.asp Yes, they are a United Kingdom company but I'm sure they can ship it to the US and it'd be worth the price if it ends up working for your child! It seems so simple and yet, it really does stimulate something within the bowels. As far as books... I don't have any books on tuina but if you go to amazon.com and type in tuina in their search engine, it pulls up a list of books and there are several that are specifically for children or pediatric tuina. I would start with one of those. For finding a practitioner, I think your best bet is to start with finding a local referral for an acupuncturist and then before going in, talk to them on the phone and find out what experience they have with tuina and constipation. Not all acupuncturists may know how to do tuina, and so I would just start there and talk to them to find out if they do, or don't...but I still think the videotape is probably your best bet. I watched the clip on the link and there are similarities to what the practitioner did with my daughter, so it seems to be a match.
