Soy milk has meat in it? How could that be? I am starting to panic - I have never in my life heard some of these things. If that is true at all I am done with soy.

Re: Soy

Amy, Val and others...Many soy research and studies fail to prove a protective benefit or much of any benefit from consuming soy against health conditions and diseases. For example, soy hasn't contributed to significant improvement in bad lipid (cholesterol and triglyceride levels) levels as promoted, either. I believe it was only two percent, maybe three percent. Most studies fail to examine the long-term effects of soy food consumption and supplements. As you may well already know, soybeans contain proteins called isoflavones, which have many of the same properties as estrogens, phytoestrogens. The big question appears to be whether women who regularly consume isoflavones could be inadvertently encouraging the growth of breast cancer cells. Ever notice that the amount of isoflavones isn't listed under the products nutritional info. To find out multiply the amount of protein listed by

three. For example, if a serving of protein is 10 grams you are getting 30 mg of isoflavones.Over 90% of soy is genetically modified, plus most alarming is that soy has the highest level of pesticides contamination of any consumed food. The anti-nutrients in soy protein isolate, genetically modified soy, the key ingredient in most soy foods, imitate other foods like dairy –almost all brands of soy milk contain soy protein isolate, meat, and baby formulas. I felt insulted to find out I was eating genetically modified food some years ago.My neighbor thought soy would help slow down her aging and consuming it would make her healthier. It did quite the opposite made her almost incapacitated, but when she eliminated soy entirely she quickly got back to being her old-self again. I know three other people that had similar reactions. I couldn't figure out why my son would come home with sharp

pains in his tummy – his coach was giving him energy bars loaded with soy protein isolate. I know by his almost immediate reaction if soy is in anything he eats. Even though I don't put all my eggs in one basket, soy promoters and manufactures, Weston Price and truly independent researchers have shown us conflicting information. Sometimes it's another one of those puzzling challenges to pick out the valid info. There is lots of lots of in-house info out there from soy manufactures.Be careful and stay healthy,Bj> > >> > > Google thyroid+soy and you will find lots of articles. The only members of my family who have died of heart attacks were indeed

heavy meat eaters. However they were also heavy smokers, and heavy

consumers of vegetable oils and sugar and carbs. I also had a cousin who

died of colon cancer at 50. I have no idea what her diet was though. My

mother was a big consumer of vegetable oils, and sugar, and a smoker,

she had a strange colon cancer, but actually died of emphysema.

Hi to All

I really want to thank everyone for all their input! What an amazing discussion - forced me into really digging into some of the long-held theories I have had about diet and nutrition. My end-goal is to be healthier - so again thanks to everyone and I hope the dialog continues!

Re: Soy

re the discussion on soy.. i looked into it a couple of years ago, after hearing about it the first time.one thing was for sure when i did all the internet searches,, last year, the American Heart Association AHA did NOt have soy listed anywhere in its food pyramid or anywhere else on its website..a glaring ommission which sends a message imo..i have read the issues related to soy/infant formula causing early puberty in infants and also reports @ FDA scientists fears of soy..--but only read those on "health" sites,, and not seen negative reports @ soy on government or official medical sites.. -Carol> > The first thing I noticed is that this article mostly references > other people's books.
