Guest guest
Lactulose can cause horrible cramping. Magnesium citrate or Milk of Magnesia would probably be better. Stop the miralax and I guarantee you the urinary problems will stop as well................ Kathy Re: New to group anne, what an ordeal. i am so sorry. i would be curious to hear more about the issues sitting on the potty - my three year old will only poop standing up in a diaper. asks for a diaper shen she needs to go. but does not want to sit down on the potty for pooping purposes.... we tried the miralax and had a horrible behaivoiral reaction. am now on lactulose, though i would like to try transitioning off within the next month or so. it is a synthetic sugar that pulls water into the colon to soften the stool. i am wanting to get off only because i am now distrustful of most synthetic stuff and if we can treat naturally, would prefer to. we have been alternating the lactulose with naturalcalm. we also use a heavy duty probiotic and am giong to wean off the lactulose with an oil supplement - don't have the name at the office with me - but is from whole foods - has flax seed oil and a bunch of others. hope that helps. dana Hello, I have a 7 year old daughter who has been on Miralax for 2 years now. She had severe constipation since age 3 and the peditricians perscribed Miralax for it. She would rarely have a BM in the toilet, and when she did it was huge. A GI doctor diagnosed her with megacolon and prescribed cleanouts with Miralax and twice daily doses of Miralax to keep things going. She also had some behavioral therapy to have a daily BM in the toilet. She is having daily BMs in the toilet, but also lots of underwear staining. When I try to back off of the Miralax, she gets backed up again. I don't know what to try next. If you have any suggestions, it would be appreciated. One doctor suggested Lactulose. Another doctor told me Miralax was perfectly safe and she could be on it the rest of her life if needed. I just can't accept that my daughter would need this medicine daily to have a BM! I don't know if she has had any reactions to the Miralax. She has had 4 UTIs and I worry about damage to her kidneys. Are there tests I can ask the doctors for to test kidney function? I can't believe how hard it is to treat this type of constipation. I have neighbors whose kids were potty trained at age 2 and can sit an have a BM whenever they need to and I wonder what ever happened to us. Thank you, Anne You rock. Guest guest
if you give as much lactulose as the doctor prescribes you will for sure get cramping. learned that the hard way. we give lilah about half the dosage (instead of 3 t 2x/day, we give 3 t 1x/day). have not had cramping since we cut it down. but i would for sure recommend the naturalcalm - which i think is mag citrate? anyway, good luck. dana Lactulose can cause horrible cramping.
