Guest guest
Has anyone experienced any of these symptoms? I find this a little strange............... The clinical diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis is suggested on the basis of the symptoms of fever, sore throat, swollen lymph glands, and the age of the patient. Usually, laboratory tests are needed for confirmation. Serologic results for persons with infectious mononucleosis include an elevated white blood cell count, an increased percentage of certain atypical white blood cells, and a positive reaction to a "mono spot" test. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epstein-Barr_virus

Guest guest
by the way - it is confirmed with a blood test - and all of those symptoms. you can also have swollen liver and elevated billirubin (sp?) levels. vomitting is common. but there are very accurate blood tests to properly identify the virus. exhaustion also goes hand in hand with it. i had epstein barr virus - was tired for about 4 years. cuases mono which is HORRIBLE. i hope no one has it! is really wretched. nothing you can do about epstien barr. just have to ride it out. Guest guest
I know. I read that also. Sure is funny, when Cody got sick, back in January, they did a colonoscopy and a scope and found a high eosinophil count in his esophagus (which is how he got his EE dx). Eosinophils are white blood cells. The ID doc is researching to see if there is any . I know there is, Cody got real sick in January, he is so much better now it is unbelievable. He is about 85% just almost, but not quite, back to normal. He still has red eyes (not as bad) and is a little bit pale, and still doesn't have all his energy, but most of it, back, and is still having small amounts of muscle pain. And, of course he still has the constipation issue, which I believe is the root to all these problems. You know, the spot test - showed negative, he had 3 of them, doc claims the spot test is not as accurate (that is what they do to see if further testing needs to be done). This doc did some test that showed a definite positive for EBV and Mono. He claims he had EBV and that is what caused the Mono. I also read, somewhere on the internet, that EBV can be caused by medications. Funny they mentioned that, I know that Miralax did, whatever it did, to my son, I have always known it caused this, just didn't know how. Of course the doc says he doesn't know what caused it, but that it is possible. I told him Cody has eczema triggered by chemicals and asked him if chemicals could cause an eczema like reaction on the inside and he said most definitely it could. But, he couldn't say what causedhis, just that it is possible. I took Cody off all medications about 1 month ago, all I really had him on at the time was MOM, it also gave him a stomach ache, the ache that is affiliated with his EE. He no longer has the stomach ache and has gained weight. He is doing great, we have changed so many things I don't know for sure which one helped, if any. The only thing he is on now is Probiotics, Fiber Choice, 3-4 bottles of Ozarka spring water, and lots of watery fruits. He is doing ok, not great, just ok with the constipation. He has come a long way. I do want to say thanks to everyone on this group for not only all the support but all the advice and the sharing of your stories and all the trials and errors you've made, and especially the prayers, every thing played a factor in his recovery. My baby is almost back to normal. The doc said the EBV virus will take a long time to completely recover from, but he should make a complete recovery. Guest guest
Yes, after reading everthing about EBV and Mono, that explains why Cody has been soo tired. He is doing a lot better, doc expects full recovery, he said 6 months to a year. He claims that him staying in his sports through all this illness is what has helped pull him through. I wish we could have known sooner, all the spots tests came back negative in the ER. The ID doc is the one who decided to do a full conclusive test and it was positive, he said he is at the end of it now. Guest guest
Yes, the ID doc ran those tests - a definite positive for EBV and Mono. It explained a lot all of his symptoms.
