Guest guest
Its a shame-and I feel so angry and frustrated it hurts.Terrorism is everywhere yes-no one can stop a suicide bomber etc etc.But do we even try??The London blasts happened -and a couple of weeks after that another series was foiled by the security forces here.Constantly security is updated.Even then there are failures and events happen. But atleast the govt has tried and then has the sensitivity to try harder. What do we do-we talk give long heavily punctuated statements on TV which seem to be scripted for such events specially and then the next day everyone goes back to work.Life goes on.We take pride in that-they wont destroy our spirit....blah blah blah. There is no will power or even a desire to tackle any of this -votebank politics are far more attractive and convenient. No one is accountable. My dad said to me yesterday was the 61st anniversary of him leaving the shores of what is now Pakistan to set foot in Bombay.Bombay is where I was born and bred like a lot of us in this group.I was making plans with my friends in Bombay to go out to Leopold during my visit there next month.Looking at the Taj-I remember going there with my cousin when I was 15-sitting in Shamiana the coffee shop and ordering a Thums up for 7 rupees which we shared-that is all we could afford-have been back umpteen times since but never was a visit so special as that one.Atul and me both worked and met at Bombay Hospital-a lot of our free time was spent at Leopold and Colaba.I feel let down - as if someone has come to my home and destroyed it. But we must be tolerant and we must appease-oh yes say that to the children of the policemen who died yesterday. I wait now only for this to happen again and again and again.May be we deserve it. 82 _________________________________________________________________ See the most popular videos on the web http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/115454061/direct/01/
Guest guest
I don't think that we should blame anybody for appeasement. No one should label terrorism as Muslim terrorism or Hindu terrorism. These guys are not religious at all. Probably in the heat of the moment, we might suggest, like Ravin did, that we shoot these people in public. However, we are civilised and the law must take its course. There is no doubt that by time this email is read most or all the terrorist will be shot, but at what cost of innocent lives? Looking for solutions? No easy ones are around. The main thing is not to let the terrorists achieve their objective, which is spread of panic and heightening of religious hatred. If we prevent that, then naturally the terrorists will have failed! Guest guest
All along, I was trying to grapple for the exact words that describe my sentiments while I was watching the horrific events in Mumbai unfold, and I think madam has summed it perfectly where she said " I feel let down - as if someone has come to my home and destroyed it. " I was watching the various reactions and I think that the only people who have let us down in all this are the politicians... I know that to talk about politics is not the the time or place on this forum, but here are my two cents : OK... so, Asif Ali Zardari calls up Gandhi and tells her " to convey his condolences and those of the people of Pakistan to the members of the victims' families " ..... and when I read this, I didnt know whether to laugh or cry... so he expects that ji when she is making her customary rounds in the various hospitals and staged meetings with families of victims, where she expresses her pre-staged " the whole country is with your in this time of crisis " ... bhashan, is she also expecte to say that " oh by the way, the president and people of Pakistan have expressed their condolences too..... " ... is this some kind of a joke... do they think that people dont get to read the kind of statements that they make or do they think that people are total morons? On NDTV, I was watching an interview with Shobha De and even though I am not a big fan or her writing, I agree with her on one point she mentioned during the interview.... she said to the politicians " keep away from my city " . I agree with her..... we have seen LK Advani, Manmohan Singh visiting Mumbai now... whats the need? Just to show their " solidarity " and give media bytes as to how they condemn this horrific thing? ... well, they can pretty much do that sitting in their cozy offices in New Delhi.....during their " visit " , they have the " Z " security, and also the visit alters the dynamics of the entire situation area.... wherein the focus shifts from the actual rescue work to giving security to these visiting VIP's.... all the police that are used for the security for these " netas " can pretty much be used elsewhere in Mumbai to provide security to all the Mumbaikars who always have to bear the brunt of these strikes. The media is making such a hullaboo about " LK Advani and PM are visiting Mumbai together.. it's a show of solidarity by politicians " .... all I have to say to them is, that in a situation of this magnitude, which is a national calamity, all the politicians pretty darn well come together and show solidarity instead of attacking each other. I think all they need to understand is that right now, security of Mumbai is much more important than their own personal agenda to gain political mileage....... let the police and the army do their job without worrying about diverting their attention to catering to you...! At this moment, I dont care what Vilasrao or R.R. Patil think ..... its their job to be there and monitor the situation... by the way, even during his press meet, Vilasrao mentioned something about " ji " ... and I was like " are you kidding...? " I think the real heroes of the situation are the heroic Mumbai police, firefighters, army and navy commandos , all the staff working at the hotels, medical personnel working round the clock in hospitals to save lives of people, the BEST and ambuland crivers whic are evacuating all the victims and the good samaritan on the street providing help to unknown strangers in this time of crisis..... so, politicians... stay away........ think more about how you can pass laws to improve security of civilians in all major cities, think about how you can upgrade our fire fighting equipment, so that our brave firefighting jawans can control the blaze with water cannons that can actually maintain their water pressure wearing equipment that can save their lives with trucks and ladders that can control the blaze in the most adverse of cases, think about how you can give better equipment and training to Mumbai police and RPF constables who are usually the first respondents in such terror attacks, think about what measures you can take so that average citizens can feel free and safe to roam into malls, dine at a restaurant, stay in a hotel or just catch the returning train to go home.....!!
