Guest guest
Wow! and I have been considering going out to AZ because I heard that the climate was so much better for people with asthma!! :-( I'm in MD! and it absolutely sucks for me! but when I go to Cape May or anywhere near water I'm great! :-( LOL Kaycarol caruso wrote: I can answer this! Im FROM AZ and was so sick! I had been on prednisone for over 5 yrs there uz as soon as they took me off it i would be in the ER with an attack! I was told after going to the ER every 2 weeks with worse and worse attacks , that i would be dead within a year if i didnt move! I HAD to leave Tucson! I came to Oregon and 2 months after coming here i was off the prednisone and have had only to take it at times im sick or the pollen got too high! MAYBE 2 times a year for a few days! I have lost 125 lbs since coming here and can now walk 2 miles at one time! I was lucky to walk across the room in AZ without my asthma kicking in! I think it depends on your triggers tho some ppl do great in AZ but it was making me slowly die! Guest guest
I am from Texas. Lived in Kansas before and for two years after moving here I did not have any trouble with allergies, etc. I was getting really bad in Kansas. As far as moving to Arizona.....So many people have moved there with their plants, etc that it's not much different than anywhere else except its drier. I think there are more people here in this group from the eastern U.S. but I think most of our problems are universal. Just my opinion Lou >> Do you think the area you live in makes a difference?> > Are we mostly from the east coast?> > I would think I would be better to live in Arizona.> > Is anyone from there?> > I am from Pennsylvania.> > Barb>
Guest guest
I live in Kenai (key-nigh) Alaska. I just moved from South Carolina where my asthma moved from a mild irritant twice per decade to a daily, chronic pain in the neck. I moved back to Alaska in the hope that the asthma will settle down again. I've been told that the very cold air may not be good. i earned my masters degree in Denver and have considered going back to that part of Colorado. Partly for the environment, partly to be close to National Jewish, and largely to be close to family. As far as location making a difference: The last time I saw my pulmonologist in SC I pretended to lay a map in front of him and told him to point to any location where he thought I could live with minimum symptoms. He told me that if I had few problems in AK, then that may be a good move. I don't think so now. I understand that if a person has allergies in one area, a move may offer temporary improvment, but the allergies are likely to return. We'll see. I have noticed a change (not good) since temperatures dipped below freezing. I am anxious as to how life will be near or below zero. Mike Where do you live? Guest guest
Hi Barb, I live in southeastern Arizona. I have lived in Arizona most of my life. I have lived in other states tho, and can give a general run down of how my asthma was in the states. My asthma was the worst ever when I have lived in Arizona. I lived in Long Beach California for three years...my asthma did not get better or worse there. I lived in Mississippi for 7 years and actually my asthma was a little better there, but it was when I was living there that a doctor started me on singulair along with my other inhalers so that may have had something to do with it. Arizona may be hotter and drier than other states, but there is lots of dust, pollution, tons of hay fields that can set people off. We do not have the mold problem that some wetter states have....but we still get mold during the thunderstorm season in the summer and that is only because we use a swamp cooler as opposed to Air Conditioning. Swamp Coolers are really popular here because they are effective and cost less to cool the house. Their downside is that they pump a lot of moisture into the house, and if the moisture content of the air outside is high due to thunderstorms, mold can then thrive. Fortuatlly I do not seem to be greatly sensitive to mold, but when they cut alfalfa in the fields nearby...watch out!!! Alfalfa brings on hives, sneezing, and severe asthma attack. While we are on the subject of places to live, there is another problem with the southwestern part of the U.S. and that is Valley fever. I was born in west Texas, and have lived in the southwest most of my life, so chances are I have already contacted it and have pretty much life-time immunity to it. Google it to find out more on it if you are planning on moving to Arizona. sorry this is so long! Cindi beez wrote: Do you think the area you live in makes a difference? Guest guest
I think asthmatics react to climates differently. I have a friend who did absolutely wonderful in the hot dry climate, but I do best on the Atlantic coast ( & I mean on the coast). Go figure. Madeline > I can answer this! Im FROM AZ and was so sick! Guest guest
Maybe you do better on the coast because of the ocean. Barb I think asthmatics react to climates differently. Guest guest
I am a military brat and I've lived on both coasts and a lot of places in between. I currently am on the East Coast. It's wet and moldy here so I think I've had more asthmatic symptoms living here than anywhere else. But in Colorado, I had A LOT of food allergy problems which may have triggered asthma. Who knows? When I was a little kid, one of the places my parents considered moving was Arizona because of the climate. My dad never got transferred there, so we never lived there. Do you think the area you live in makes a difference? Are we mostly from the east coast? I would think I would be better to live in Arizona. Is anyone from there? I am from Pennsylvania. Guest guest
LOL im sorry to burst your bubble. Like i said everyone has different triggers and you may do just fine in AZ. It was bad for me as my triggers are dust and oleanders and greasewood trees! Alot of ppl do have an easier time in Az just not me. do some research and find out your triggers and compare as i did before we moved to OR. Good Luck!
