Guest guest
Thanks for the responses. However, quitting is not an option for me. I really do like my job. For awhile, I had thought about switching to a hospital that doesn't do abortions. But where I'm at we do MANY high risk patients and I enjoy the challenge. I think what I was looking for was maybe a better way of dealing with these patients when I'm faced with them. What I'm more concerned about is having my own feelings affect the way I deal with these patients. I don't want to come across as judgemental to them. I know that we all have ethical issues that, as nurses, we have to rationalize in our own minds, even if we do not agree with the choices made by the patients or their families. Guest guest
Jan, and what a thought it was!!! Thank you so much for your words. They did make me feel better. And you're right, I do find that by facing all of this, I'm learning some things about myself. LOL just wish it weren't so unpleasant sometimes. All this time I thought I was about as liberal as they come. Anyway, I'll get through this, just have to do some soul searching. Thanks again. I knew I could find some answers from a sister nurse. Guest guest
I have never worked in a place where elective ones were done, only time they were done were in the cases of genetic abnormalities. We had a list of nurses who would assist these patients and a list of those who refused. Since we didn't do that many of them, it usually wasn't a problem to make sure that a nurse who would support the patient was on. If there is no policy like this in place at your hospital, and you knew ahead of time that this was part of the job description, I'm not sure there is much you can do other than to quit unless there are a lot of other nurses who would be willing to take the assignment from you. However, since I've started my job (Sept 4) > I've been asked to assist in abortions. My hospital does many of them. I > knew this when I was hired and didn't think I'd have a problem with it. Guest guest
Subject: (no subject) Here's a Belly laugh for the day ) Everyone knows laffing is good medicine! A lady walks into a pharmacy, and asks the druggist, for some arsenic. The druggist asks ..... " Ma'am, what do you want with arsenic? " . The lady replies...... " To kill my husband. " " It's against the law to sell Arsenic...certainly not for that purpose " ........ says the druggist. The lady.........utters, not a word.....reaches into her purse....... and pulls out a photo of a man and a woman.......in a compromising position. The man in the photo....is her husband, and the lady is the druggist's wife, and shows it to the druggist. He stares at the photo and says " Oh. I didn't know you had a prescription! Guest guest
Hi to my unda buddies near and far, I have a patient going to Ecuador in a few months and she will definitely be traveling in the jungle. She's told she'll need a vaccination for Yellow Fever and there's concern about malaria as well. I understand the Solvarome is good for repelling mosquitos. What advice can I give her; does anyone have experience with this sort of travel. Many thanks, Sobyl Bunis _________________________________________________________________ With Windows Live for mobile, your contacts travel with you. http://www.windowslive.com/mobile/overview.html?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_Refresh_mobile\ _052008
