think i am late on this - but it is my understanding - and i can be wrong, that lactulose and LACTOSE are NOT the same thing. lactulose is a synthetic sugar " formed from one molecule each of the simple sugars (monosaccharides) fructose and galactose. The commercial syrup used for treatment of constipation is dyed yellow-orange. It is produced commercially by isomerization of lactose. " (took this from wikipedia.) my husband is lactose intolerant and my daughter has a dairy sensitivity, but we have been very happy with the lactulose. since you can't get this without a prescription anyway, it is a conversation to have with a doctor - the relationship between lactose and lactulose. but just so you know - they are not one and the same. hope that helps. good luck. dana

You are correct Lactose & Lactulose are not the same thing but BOTH

are ingredients that someone with a dairy allergy should avoid. You

can confirm this on the FAAN.org website (Food allergy & anaphylaxis

network).
