Guest guest
, I've never heard of this one but according to the article, this is a quinalone which is what they make Levequin out of, it's a category of antibiotics. They are either, sulfer based, etc. please read the side affects of Levaquin being a quinalone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinolone http://health.yahoo.com/infectiousdisease-medications/levofloxacin/healthwise--d04109a1.html#d04109a1-sideeffects Most doctors prescribe magnesium, milk of magnesia, senna, and there are a lot of Mom's on here that use natural calm, Mineral oil and Miralax are petro-chemicals and I'd try to stay away from those. Have you tried eliminating things from his diet? I guess they say to eliminate one thing at a time to see what works or could be creating the constipation. Just wondering whether anyone has tried this and what their experiencehas been. Also, I'm interested in suggestions for other natural remedies ifanyone has some to share. Thanks - this is a great group!Cristina
Guest guest
Just out of curiousity, Cristina, did the naturopath say what's next, after the cascada sagrada? How will that work and how will it fix the constipation? If you can only use it for a week, it sounds like the doc is expecting this to get rid of the constipation. Which may be the case, but is it permanent? We've been through a zillion of "don't use more than a week" rememdies from our naturopath. Eventually, I found this board and learned about other methods. Magnesium, probiotics, etc. Thanks! Tracie cascada sagrada My son (3) has been constipated for about 4-5 months. He often goes 7days without a BM. Guest guest
The naturopath suggested the following for my son (DOB 6/28/08, 35 lbs):TESTING ORDERED1) Allergy testing (blood test)2) White blood cell count test3) Thyroid testTESTING TO CONSIDER4) Celiac disease test 5) Parasite testingDIETARY RECOMMENDATIONS1) Flaxseeds, flax oil (1-2 tbsps per day)2) Cherries, berries, prune juice (2 cups prune juice per day)3) Drink water every hour (shoot for 2 oz per hour at least)NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS1) Paleo fiber (1 tablespoon added to fresh fruit smoothie)2) Cascara Sagrada (this was only recommended to be used for a very limited time and I think he suggested doing 1/4 of the dosage on the bottle and for no longer than one week - my understanding was that this was more as an "emergency" thing if he hadn't gone in a full week or something)OTHER1) Daily excersize that entails running around (e.g., soccer, tag, etc.)As far as the testing goes, he explained that as a ND, he is like an investigator and that these tests will help him narrow down what might be causing this. We also talked about how part of his constipation may have stemmed from stress in his life (for my son it was starting daycare at the same time that his baby brother was born). I'd be curious as to what others who went to naturopaths have been told to try.Btw, my son has no other known health issues. To: miralax From: ctaj@...Date: Sun, 15 Jun 2008 09:36:33 -0500Subject: Re: cascada sagrada Just out of curiousity, Cristina, did the naturopath say what's next, after the cascada sagrada? Guest guest
Thanks, Jeanie. I will look into that article. I am planning to treat the cascada sagrada as a last resort type of thing b/c when I googled it I found out that it is definitely not something that you would want to give your child a lot of - if at all.We are getting my son allergy tested to see what he might be allergic to and then we do plan to try eliminating some things from his diet. He never showed signs of allergies before so this is all new to me!Thanks,CristinaTo: miralax From: dreamjeanie@...Date: Sun, 15 Jun 2008 05:11:32 -0700Subject: Re: cascada sagrada , I've never heard of this one but according to the article, this is a quinalone which is what they make Levequin out of, it's a category of antibiotics. Guest guest
I will post back about something that's working for my friend who has a 2 month old, it's OTC at Walgreens and the ingredients sound good, ginger, fennel, and I think grapefruit seed extract, grapefruit seed extract is suppose to be the ideal bowel cleanser.............I would imagine it's not the easiest to take for a child but at least the ingredients are safe............."Cristina A." wrote: Thanks, Jeanie.
