Kim, Welcome, and thank you for sharing. I'm concerned about using Miralax with this condition, because it's a petro chemical and anything could trigger his situation expecially a chemical derived from antifreeze. According to what I've read, this condition may have other causes besides constipation. You may want to get a second opinion.............. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001132.htm I would look into the files section and find another alternatives, if you think it's constipation, but it could be caused from the others on the link.............. please look up the fda adverse reactions as well...............they are gut wrenching, after reading them, I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to give this to anyone.................. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/miralax/ If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, there are many moms on here that have been on here dealing with this for years................thanks again for sharing your story, hope this helps............... Jeanie tigger9302000 wrote: Hello Everyone. I have just recently joined the group and I am very

thankful to have found it. My son Kadin who turned 3 this month was put on MiraLax for a reoccuring rectal prolapse that he was having. We took him to a pediatric GI doctor who said that it was from constipation. I was not quite sure about this because his stool was pretty soft and he was going between 1-3 times per day. But I took this diagnosis with a breather because my son has Peutz_Jeghers Syndrome which is a condition where polyps grow through the intestional tract. So I had been fearful that it was a polyp trying to come out through the rectum. I was not quite comfortable with the MiraLax but reluctantly began him on it. Within 2 weeks he has severe eye blinking. I began doing some on-line investigation and was horrified and what I discovered and then I discovered this group. I began him on Natural Calm and he was doing fine but now I am worried again because the prolapse returned again yesterday (after not seeing it for 2 months). His

stool has been very soft or loose too. He has been eating alot of rasains though and they have been coming out whole in his diaper. Could this be causing the prolapse? I have not told his doctor yet that I have taken him off the MiraLAx yet because I know how he will respond. (When he asked what medications Kadin was on I told him fish oil and the doctor said, "You don't really believe that stuff do you?") Kadin's eye blinking made a significant improvement after taking him off the Miralax but he still does do it sometines. Will this eventually go away? Thanks for listening. Kim S. Hello,

I have a four year old son and daughter who are former 27 week preemies. They both have issues with constipation and take miralax for it. My son, however, has what I would consider to be on another level with his constipation. He has had these issues since he was basically born. I have tried everything when he was a baby but nothing would ever resolve it. He also has a hearty diet with fruit (not veggies...he's not into them at all LOL:) and wheat. I have went to a childrens' gastro but basically they said he was scared to go to the bathroom from it being painful in the past and so now he holds it. That was when he was two and he has been on miralax daily since then. Without he won't go at all, and it seems with it...he is almost always still holding it (even though he hasn't had a painful episode in two years). He is also potty trained except of course soiling his underwear daily and sometimes mutiple times in a day even h

aving a full fledge accident in there......and he never will stop to go to the bathroom or realize it's time to go. But he does with pee. I have had luck with getting him to go for treats (marshmallow, dumdum's, fruit snaps etc....) but I fell like he will have problems in school with this and I see no end in sight. I also feel like he never has one good bowel movement...I feel like he can push little bits out all day long. I get very frustrated but try to stay clam with him b/c I don't want to make this situation any worse. I don't know if this is behavioral, physical, emotion, or what. I really would love to hear that I'm not alone with this mess "literally". Thanks L.

I think I have tried Gripe water when he ( was a baby) for stomach upset...he had reflux. Do those things help to go to the bathroom?

I checked it out but they are no longer taking orders. My son really has a problem going bm. He will hold it for weeks unless he is given something. I'm starting to think to go back to ped. gastro a different one and maybe run some basic tests to see if he's intestinal track and etc. is functioning well? I'm not sure what to do...it's very frustrating to me. Also I feel bad for him, it can't help his confidence to constantly be soiling your underpants. Thanks for the advice,

My girlfriend got it at Walmart, they sell this in stores, you could also call the company, maybe it's just that website.................You can also make spaghetti with fennel in the ground beef, real homemade sausage contains fennel, I would make garlic bread with a garlic press and mix the garlic with butter and make homemade garlic bread.....................and you can also make salad dressing with fresh ginger, Gingerale contains ginger as well..............This recipe with the fennel, and garlic usually produces a bm.............I'd check Walgreens etc. Any store will order anything you request...........The pharmcist always recommended Ex-Lax as well, it's senna and it's chocolate and much easier for a child to take............... Hi Marilyn,

Glad you found the food intolerances. Have you tried a different T4

med? What was your reaction to Armour? Not tolerating replacement

hormones could mean you have impaired Adrenals. Have you tested your

Adrenals? Do you get enough sleep and exercise?

On Synthroid and Levoxyl I had many side effects including burning

type pain like heart burn that didn't disappear until I stopped taking

both. That sort of pain could also be from stress. Have you been

under a lot of stress? BTW are you taking a generic T4 med? If so

they probably give a different one each refill - that could be

problematic.

Currently your labs show a too high TSH, (s/b around 1 or less) FT4 at

60% of range (seems good) but FT3 only at less than 28%. You aren't

converting T4 to T3 efficiently. Maybe a bit of Cytomel (T3) would be

worth consideration. If you increase your T4 you may get too much T4

and still have low T3 -- that will make you feel much worse.

Are you taking any supplements that could be causing the pain. For me

it was a filler, binder, dye etc that didn't agree with me.

Hope this helps,

--Bj
