Guest guest
PERMISSION TO FORWARD, REPOST & USE IN NEWSLETTERS ------------------------------ The sad news of the death of Lynn Gilderdale is by now online for almost every newspaper due out tomorrow. It is the headline, chosen by the Daily Mail (*Mother arrested as 'yuppie-flu' daughter is found dead after 16 years in bed, 8 December 2008*), which has provoked the most outrage. I think Dr Shepherd, Medical Adviser of the ME Association, was in first with this: MAY BE REPOSTED HIGH PRIORITY Sir RE: Mother arrested for murder after 'yuppie-flu' daughter is found dead after 16 years in bed Please could you immediately remove this on-line headline before it appears in a paper edition of the Daily Mail tomorrow. The reference to 'yuppie flu' is highly offensive to the family who are now having to deal with this tragic death. It is also a totally inaccurate description of the illness known as ME because ME affects all age groups and social classes. There is no scientific evidence whatsoever to justify the use of this derogatory term and most newspapers stopped using it years ago. Yours sincerely Dr Shepherd Hon Medical Adviser, ME Association I know that a few others have already sent a response and several others intend to. This is my reply, http://www.mefreeforall.org/December-2008.1332.0.html#c6339 which you may read, when logged in and click to the original article. May I urge as many as can manage make their feelings known. The e-mail address is letters@... Sad today drjohngreensmith@...
