RE: Hello from a new member

He told you to stay away from the barn due to the mold!!!!! If you haveHay/Straw in the barn you have mold spores and THAT WILL SET YOU OFF EVEN IFIT'S NOT BEING MOVED! SO stay out of that barn girl!I understand about being independent, boy do I, I am too and very stubbornat times, but I think the asthma is more stubborn than I am so I listen whenit flairs up. Sounds like your dr is headed in the right direction with youwith the Steroids give it a few days and you'll notice a difference!Words of encouragement? You've come to the right group! Welcome with OPENarms and ask and fuss away that's what the group is here for.Merry Christmas Terry I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I've had allergies allmy life. I never realized until this month that some of my more recentsymptoms were Asthma. The most bothersome, being the coughing that Icouldn't stop. The asthma meds take care of the coughing spells, but Istill feel like I can't breath more than a half breath, which is a newsymptom beyond my usual allergy symptoms. This shortness of breath is scary to me. The doctor says their is nowheezing, so he doesn't seem overly concerned. Yesterday he did give me a RXfor prednisone for 10 days. And told me to stay away from the barn.LOL! It is so hard for me to change my lifestyle. I'm a hardheaded55 year old. I've had to ask my husband to do things for me, and that'shard. He's very willing, but I'm an independent gal. You are in the hardest part of this process. The best advice I can

give you are to take your meds every day as prescribed and follow

your docs advice. It may seem inane, but they ususually have a

reason. Over the next few months, your struggles will be determining

your triggers and learning how to avoid them as well as determining

which asthma meds will work best for you. From what I have been

told, adult onset asthma can be very hard to control. As far a

wheezing, I don't wheeze I cough - so don't ever let them tell you

that because they don't hear a wheeze that you are ok. Listen to

your body and insist on treatment. The other things are to make sure

that you are seeing an asthma and allergy specialist(s). My doc is

both rolled into one. Ask your doc about peak flows. Your peak flow

is the amount of air you can blow out in a specified amount of time.

A peak flow meter is the best way to guage exactly how your asthma is

doing. Sometimes I will feel short of breath, but my peak flows are

good which tells me that it is not my asthma. Then other times my

peak flows are dropping, and then I know to take my rescue meds.

Your doc can give you a peak flow meter or you can by a manual one at

any drugstore, but I bouth a Microlife electronic one on Amazon for

about $45 which is much more accurate. Also, learn to control your

breathing and don't panic if you are having an asthma attack.

Concentrate on counting your breaths. Breathe in through your nose

and out through pursed lips for twice as long. The other advice I

can give you is listen to the people on this post. They are a very

warm, caring, and knowledgeable group. Many have had asthma for

years and many are fairly new. Hope this helps some.

Did you find what you were looking for? Did I also say aspirin is a no no for most asthmatics? I had a blinding migraine down at my sil's when we were opening gifts with dh's family had my sil throw me the bottle of pills she had on a table I could see it was Bayer aspirin, but the migraine was so back I could not read the words and ds came up to our house and got my way past migraine pain meds, thank god it works fast. What a day, ONE person can ruin everything!
