Guest guest
Hi, Regina -- welcome to our group. Well the good news is sounds like your endo knows about the revised TSH level (the high used to be 5, now it's 3), and furthermore even though your free T4 and free T3 are in range is agreeing to treat you. Seems that still rarely happens with endos. So that's great. Personally I feel that's a bit of a high dose to start on when your body is not used to it and your T4 and T3 are well within normal. So just be on the watch for side effects of over-medication--feeling nervous, fast heart rate, palpitations. A better way is usually to start low (at 50 mcg or 25 mcg) and work up. You might not feel the effects for a while, then they could hit you suddenly. At least you're being treated though--that's more than half the battle! Keep us posted, > > Hello everyone! I am new and I look forward to learning from you all! > My name is Regina and I live in Phoenix, AZ. I am 38, married, 2 > kids. Guest guest
Hi, Antibodies or no antibodies your child sounds like she needs aggressive treatment. I have never seen literature that says a child will become retarded, this usually is already evident at birth. That is why it is vital that mothers have optimal Free T3/4 levels during pregnancy. Children that have hypO symptoms should be treated, their system will slow down - slow or stop growing, the brain will not continue to develop properly etc. Your child may not become retarded but if she is as ill as you indictate she could go into a Myxedema coma. Myxedema coma is defined as severe hypothyroidism leading to decreased mental status, hypothermia, and other symptoms that occur when thyroid hormones go TOO low - the body's organs begin to shut down. I have been there and survived - most don't, so please take heed of this caution. Myxedema Coma info: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/myxedema_coma/article_em.htm See Thyroid Manager Chapter 8: http://www.thyroidmanager.org/Chapter8/8-frame.htm Not everyone that has AIT has antibodies, but should probably be treated as if s/he does. Even some people with antibodies don't have HT. So there is always a degree of out of the ordinary. Also, I have read on throid boards mothers seeking help about children's appetite stopping on Synthroid. Don't know why, but when the meds were changed the appetite improved. I would not give Synthroid to a child that has such a violent reaction. There are other T meds. Even if you can't get Armour surely you can get a compounded T med in Canada, can't you? A compounded med will be pure medicine without binders, fillers, or dyes etc. Please don't allow a biased Endo give your DD a med that she is allergic to. She could go into anaphylactic shock, which is life threatening. Personally, I can't take Synthroid or Levoxyl, but do fine on Unithroid. They both made me sicker. You want something that helps your child even if all the extras have to be removed. Sorry I don't know about Canadian treatments, doctors or medical practices. I would get copies of all lab tests, records and read and research. Why can't the Ohio doctor treat your daughter? He sounds like the only choice if you want competent help. BTW, has any doctor did further testing on Adrenals, pituitary gland and others? If so, what were the results. HTH and Good Luck, Bj > > I am actually awaiting antibody test, I will be interested to see if my antibody test will come back normal or not. > > Alana > > > > > Re: Newbie > > > While I can't answer all of your questions (I'm sure you'll get very > > thorough posts from others on this list), I can tell you that I am > > hypothyroid and have never tested positive for antibodies. Guest guest
Hi, there is synthroid with no dye in it. that would be the .5 pills. What dose is she on? its probably the dye. Joan or it could be allergic reaction to whatever fillers they put in that.too. yikes. > > Gut feeling, go take the kids to/do all consultation and treatment with the > Ohio doctor who knows what he/she is doing. Guest guest
Yes, absolutely. I now take the 50 mcg Eltroxins, which are pretty much an equivalent, except they are supposedly missing the Acacia that Synthroid has. Those fillers and binders can sure do it, but if I already knew a thyroid doc (the one her husband goes to and has been successful with) who would treat this properly, there's where I would go. I know, it could be the money involved or insurance issues, but, if possible, that is where I would go. I don't even live in Canada, and this is part of what I take, including also 30 mgs of Armour. Guest guest
Hi Joan, My Ohio doc tells me there is very small traces of caesin(she is allergic to milk) in it, dye and also aluminum .He told me that most kids tolerate it if they are healthy (with just thyroid issues) and she is not..she reacts to all fillers... My Ohio doc is having a chat with my canadian doc today....cause they don't believe my daughter is reacting to the med. They don't know the difference between a chapped lip and a chronically sore, swollen, rashed mouth....lol! My Ohio doc has offered to send me meds..i hope these canadian docs don't cause problems...this is getting complicated... thanks > > > > Gut feeling, go take the kids to/do all consultation and treatment > with the > > Ohio doctor who knows what he/she is doing. Guest guest
Hi my name is Nikki and I am a 32 y/o female with many Thyroid and like issues. I have had Hashimoto's Thyroiditis for many year but FINALLY was diagnosed with it. In 2003 I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor that was removed in 2004 and has returned. I have been on synthroid since 1995. I now have diabetes incipitus as a result of my tumor surgery. I am battling with everyday issues with Hashimoto's and just want to talk to some people with similar issues. I am also a military wife which means we move around a lot so a new set of drs every couple of years. Nikki
