Hi Liz,

What area are you in?

I got my current doctor off a Broada list. When I called, the

receptionist was not very forthright. I emailed the doctor directly.

I liked his response that he only uses TSH as a tool. But he uses it

occasionally as the main tool like most doctors. He is very

knowledgeable and will salvia test and knows how to interpret them

etc. He is the only competent doc I have seen and trust.

I found that most doc's office will tell you that the doctor follows

the AACE (Am Assoc Clinical Endo's) guidelines. Most aren't up on the

AACE guidelines though. Many doc's don't know that the TSH range was

changed and narrowed in 2002 and still use obsolete values.

I found docs via more natural or compounded pharmacies - I just asked

which docs prescribe Armour and bio-identical female hormones. You can

also look for OD's and Internists. Some may be more open to treat by

symptoms. It's a darned if I do, darned if I don't scenario.

If you call a doc's office ask if for the doc's nurse or assistant -

ask what thyroid meds and tests that the doc orders/prescribes -

especially FT3 -many will only order the useless total T3 test T3/TT3.

If they only prescribe Synthroid you might consider calling another

one. One time I called 42 offices before I made a new appt. Sure

don't miss that.

Good luck,

Bj

I have a list of various medical organizations – I'll post it later if

I find it.
