Guest guest
Hi to Everyone, I appreciate so much all of your kind words and suggestions. I've been trying to go back and read them again, but of course Abby just got a fever the past few days and I fell behind in my research! I've been following the dr's order for now until I devise my new plan. I've been giving her 1/4 cap one day and the next 1/2 cap. She did fine the first week, very mushy and then turning into normal looking BM on the toilet. Great, she's been here before. Mon-no poop, Tues, 1 poop on toilet, Wed, no poop, Today, no poop so far. Now where do I go from here. NOrmally I would give it another day and then call the dr. and they would tell me to give her a full capful and start flushing her out again. So, the cycle continues. I also have bought Almond milk. I have not given it to her. She drinks soy 2-3 times day. My question is, if I try something new how do I know how her body is reacting while she is still on the glycolax. Do you take them completely off and try new things? Thanks for listening,
Guest guest
Hi , Sorry to hear about the fever - hope she's better! In our worst times - my oldest son has gone as long as 12 days between bowel movements. I'm NOT proud of that - AND he was getting daily magnesium (looking back, perhaps I should've given more) AND by day 5 or 6, I'm sure we were struggling to get a suppository in or giving senna and/or other laxative. One thing I can say is that I know he sensed my stress over the situation and I am sure it made it worse for him. This was pre-dietary restrictions (for us, gluten, dairy, corn, egg, and most soy). I suppose in an an ideal circumstance, probably going at least once a day is healthiest (though I've not actually researched this topic!). My youngest son (19 months) goes every day, like clockwork, at almost the same time every day! (it's amazing to see this since my oldest (almost 4 yr) has never done this!) One sign that we've had a dietary infraction is that my youngest doesn't have a b.m. at the expected time. It's a dead giveaway, along with a few other symptoms. I'm not sure what I'm trying to say here - but maybe it's that you're not alone - many of us have been in your shoes and hopefully can help you through this. I also wanted to say that I think one of the potential dangers in using Miralax is when it is relied upon as a 'clean out' during a back up/impaction time. IF it is actually possible for PEG3350 to break down in the GI tract (via intestinal bacteria, for example) - having large doses of it sit in the GI tract for a few days (some parents don't seem to get results for up to a week or more!) is just NOT a good idea. Hopefully others can comment about how they got off Miralax - 'cold turkey' or slowly or ?? MOM seems like a logical alternative - it is what Miralax (PEG3350) is 'compared' with in many of the childhood constipation studies on the " effectiveness " of PEG3350. Our pediatrician was fine with my declining Miralax and using MOM (an option I brought up for her to advise us on - not one that she initially offered). If you do give MOM, remember that it does have antacid properties so I think it should be given at times separate from meals. I've since tried just about every form I could get my hands on over the past year or so and have decided I prefer other forms of magnesium. We're currently having most success with dietary exclusions and a relatively smaller dose of magnesium (usually about 100-250mg/day as opposed to 400mg/day or more) and about 250-500mg vitamin C. Currently using a combination of magnesium malate and " Mega Mag " ionic magnesium. hth! best, > > Hi to Everyone, > > I appreciate so much all of your kind words and suggestions.
