I checked the link and couldn't find the info on it being a corn starch. With my ds have a sensitivity to corn, I'm a little concerned about this. It's early and I just woke up, so I still may be too sleepy to find it. Also, I think someone gave the link www.nutraflora.com. This site has products listed that have the nutraflora already added - Horizon milk is one of those products.

Thanks, Tracie

Horizon milk Nutraflora

I went to the store yesterday and I guess they do make regular milk, The one that has the DHA added with omega 3's was there too, I guess it's a good idea if you are trying to get your children to get more omega 3's without making them take something and an aid to the digestive symstem with the prebiotic. I didn't have time to read the labels, does anyone know if it's JUST milk or if they all have the Nutraflora added to the regular milk?

Were you were giving Nutraflora supplements? or just this milk?

I would also like to add that under the summary sheet it says it's a corn starch and anyone with a corn allergy may have a problem with it. It was also vague on the sweetners added..................anyone?

over all, this sounds like a good product, it's certainly worth a try.................

I think it's funny how the doctors are still in denial about the harmful affects of antibiotics.......... as our shelves at the grocery store start to increase in probiotic therapy........Activia, Nutraflora, etc.I wonder why they quit giving probiotic's after antibiotic use, back in the day.........

I'm certainly glad it's helping, thank you for sharing

I thought it was just the horizon yogourt that had nutraflora in it.

My little guy had corn syrup in his hypo formula. (I will never understand that one) He is actually doing much better on the whole milk than the hypo formula since starting the nutraflora. Before the nutraflora he would burp constantly on whole milk and bloat up. Has hasnt shown any sensitivity to nutraflora. Again, my experience with prebiotics has been that they have eliminated what I think were yeast symptoms. Hyperactivity, bad behaviour, bloating, food sensitivites, rashes etc... but when I used them alone my kids caught colds way more easily than on the probiotic that is why I am doing a small amount of probiotics with the nutraflora.

I am giving my kids a 1/2 cap of solaray nutraflora that I picked up at whole foods. It equals about 1/8 of a teaspoon. You can also buy the nutraflora from now foods at www.iherb.com for about $8.

I think I answered my own question...the product info says the now brand contains no corn (among others). So, is it safe to assume it's not part of the hi-maize line?

Nutraflora is a type of FOS it is a short chain fos. SFOS

I have some clinical studies on it if you guys want them. I got them from the company. I do have to say that now my constipated daughter is having loose stools. She is not complaining of any other ailments, it is very weird, she never has loose stringy stools. She has had 5 in the last three days.

I would love to try FOS with my daughter, espec. since we know from a stool sample back 3 years ago (before biomedical intervention) that her bifidobacter was 0+. Though we have been supplementing with VSL#3 for quite a while, I strongly suspect that most passes through and isn't really colonizing (due to the slow progress we have had in healing her gut and dealing with yeast). However, I called Solaray and they told me that both that product and the Kal brand are derived from aspergillus, which are high in oxalate (my kids have to stay very low oxalate). I would instead like to try GOS since it is derived from dairy (lesser of the 2 evils for us), but the only product I find is Bimuno, and they are a UK company. Has anyone in the States gotten ahold of it and had

success with it?

I feel the same way about the probiotics passing through. I see benefit from them but it seems more like a bandaid than the real deal. I also struggle with the die off, with my kids it has been very severe. I have seen promising results since starting the prebiotics I have not seen that icky behavioral die off, I am just dealing with two children that are signifagantly more calm and, well.... NORMAL!!!! Even the inulin showed huge promise, it just slowed things down way too much for us.

You might consider contacting nutraflora directly. We are only using less than 1/8 teaspoon, I dont know what that means as far as oxalates go.

GNC has a product that is nutrafora and beneo 70/30 ratio. http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2748960 & cp= & kw=prebiotics & origkw=prebiotics & sr=1

I am not sure if you know that GOS is a dairy product.

Inulin is another type of fos but we had horrific luck with it, it reduced transit time. It chain length is much higher than nutraflora.

http://www.jarrow.com/product/457/Inulin_FOS available at iherb.

this one has beneo synergy 1 in it.

for its Beneo Synergy 1 – inulin and oligofructose together

I am having a really hard time finding info on synergy 1. I did try a couple of jarrow products with fos in it and they didnt work so I didnt put alot of research into it. Who knows it might have worked if I did it by itself. Below is a very promising study on synergy and rats with collitis.

colitis • commensal intestinal bacteria • cytokines • HLA-B27 transgenic rats • immunomodulation • prebiotics

Abstract

HLA-B27 transgenic rats develop spontaneous colitis under specific pathogen-free conditions (SPF) but germ-free rats remain disease-free, emphasizing a role for intestinal bacteria in the pathogenesis of chronic intestinal inflammation. Prebiotics are dietary substances that affect the host by stimulating growth and/or activity of potentially health promoting bacteria. The aims of this study were to investigate whether prebiotics can prevent colitis in SPF HLA-B27 rats, and secondly, to explore mechanisms of protection. SPF HLA-B27 transgenic rats received orally the prebiotic combination long-chain inulin and oligofructose (Synergy 1), or not, prior to the development of clinically detectable colitis. After seven weeks, cecal and colonic tissues were collected for gross cecal scores (GCS), histologic inflammatory scores (scale 0-4), and mucosal cytokine measurement. Cecal and colonic contents were collected for analysis of the gut microbiota by

PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) and fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH), and analysis of short-chain fatty acid composition. Prebiotic treatment significantly decreased GCS and inflammatory histologic scores in the cecum and colon. Prebiotic treatment also decreased cecal IL-1, but increased cecal TGF- concentrations. Inulin/oligofructose altered the cecal and colonic PCR-DGGE profiles, and FISH analysis showed significant increases in cecal Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium populations after prebiotic treatment compared with water-treated rats. In conclusion, the prebiotic combination Synergy 1 reduced colitis in HLA-B27 transgenic rats, which effect was associated with alterations to the gut microbiota, decreased

tissue proinflammatory cytokines and increased immunomodulatory molecules. These results show promise for prebiotics as primary or adjuvant maintenance therapy for chronic inflammatory bowel diseases.

Thanks for all the info, Nattalie. That is great to hear about your results. I might try contacting nutraflora - solaray said they had not tested their products for oxalates (no surprise there). Yes, I'm aware GOS is derived from dairy - my plan was to try to give it with their raw milk. While the kids cannot tolerate pastuerized, they can do raw dairy. I was hoping the enzymes and probiotics in the raw milk would help to break down any lactose and casein in the GOS product - that is if I can get my hands on it.

I checked the link and couldn't find the info on it being a corn starch. With my ds have a sensitivity to corn, I'm a little concerned about this. It's early and I just woke up, so I still may be too sleepy to find it. Also, I think someone gave the link www.nutraflora. com.

It was also vague on the sweetners added....... ......... ..anyone?

over all, this sounds like a good product, it's certainly worth a try......... ........

I think it's funny how the doctors are still in denial about the harmful affects of antibiotics. ......... as our shelves at the grocery store start to increase in probiotic therapy..... ...Activia, Nutraflora, etc.I wonder why they quit giving probiotic's after antibiotic use, back in the day.........

I'm certainly glad it's helping, thank you for sharing

I'm confused, why would their products contain oxalates?

Hi Jeanie,

I checked into the Solaray and Kal FOS products, and the company told me they are derived from aspergillus. This is a fungus which can produce a lot of oxalate. Inulin also has a lot of oxalate, so we have to avoid that as well, but thanks for the suggestion.

I am a little nervous. Do you think loose stools is a good thing like a detox?

, everything is fine, I'll elaborate later, I gotta run out the door. Look up oxalates, this only pertains to children that are high in oxalates you would know by them complaining of their pee pee's hurting, if it's not hurting anything and is helping stick with it.................Miralax seems to create oxalates or should I say an over abundance of them, therefore you wouldn't want to be adding insult to injury, that's all.............If it's helping your child..............stick with it
