without a balance of good and bad bacteria, anything we eat will cause symptoms, one must be tested (stool sample) for a count of good bacteria. It will say 0+ if there isn't any good bacteria. If you get it balanced, you will be able to tolerate milk etc.

Nattalie, this could be also possibly from the bacteria's in the activia even though they would be considered good flora. Also, sugars can cause this excess gas as the sugars feed bacteria. Now I am very leary that the new prebiotic has been added to my sons pediasure, could be wrong on this, but it is made through sugar cane. Although it doesnt make candida, it is possibly feeding it! Im sure this is also feeding the strains in the activia. I dont know excactly but just was thinking a while ago that the excess gases was possibly from bacteria, not as first gastro said(from stool only). My sons gas has been huge lately and gotta figure this out, he is so sensitive with the intestinal nerves that he starts to headbang/scratches when he has excess gas(this is more commen in non verbal, the banging etc.) Came accross some info on gas/bacteria, here is one of them. Is this test part of the gastro routine for bacteria. Im trying to

recall his old tests if that was in there. Ill be sure and stress

this testing when he goes in a couple of weeks for testing. You know

like yeast, they can do test but can be false results? Jennie<><

I agree, possibly feeding the wrong type! Thanks for the no yeast

info, makes me feel better! Yes he is bloated lately, the problems

etc. I too have been wondering about the bacteria growing and

gas/back up etc. Gonna do the OLE for a few days! Thanks Nattalie!

Based on 10 years of trying to figure this stuff out I think the reason bacterial issues and constipation are so hard is becasue of bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. Bacterial counts in the healthy small instine are very low, kids with overgrowth and constipation often have too much bacteria in the small intestine and so do people with ibs and asthma. I am confident that is why my kids have such issues with probiotics. They just dont make it where they are supposed to go. It is very frustrating. Every time I have tried bifidus the reflux flares and the yeast goes way way up. Every time i do acidolphilus the reflux goes down the yeast goes up and the constipation sets in. If I do a multi strain, they get really bloated and constipated. Nutraflora is a short chain prebiotic meaning that it only takes

4 hours for bacteria to eat it. There may be a chance that the bacteria in the small intestine are eating it. If you have too much bacteria of any kind in the small intestine you will have gas and allergic reactions that has been scientifically proven. Look up SIBO small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Unforunately noone has figured out a cure for it. That is why we have tried inulin (long chain) and nutraflora short chain. We added the magnesium to kill off the bacteria we dont want in the small intestine and are trying to feed the large intestine with prebiotics. I dont know if it is the answer that is just what we are trying and we are having some success especially with yeast and allergies. I am actually considering and I am trying inulin with mag because I suspect that the nutraflora chain isnt long enough to get through the small intestine without feeding that bacteria I dont want there.

Am I going crazy or does this make sense??

Although I dont understand all the strains, it does make sense on

some of your thoughts on the bacteria. I just dont have enough

knowledge about the bacterias. I really think Im gonna try the OLE

attack and see what happens, just gotta figure what would be best in

replenishing the good flora, using the activia write now(but leary

about the excess gas possibly coming from it and your earlier posts

on it) and as good as I thought it was working, now what/he's backing

up....uuuugh! Hopefully next gastro visit well give us some answers,

I just no they are gonna start wanting to pump him with the meds again

(just made things worse), but gotta get the testing overwith/get some

answers! I wont drug him up again just because of occaissional

backups! Jennie<><

Nattalie,

Shaklee is one of the only companies that guarantees that the designed "pearl" is the only one in the world that gets to the colon................it's called Optiflora, a prebiotic is given, then you take the pearl, the probiotic. These are the vitamins I was telling you about.................all natural, dried at 100 degrees, not chemically processed. The Ocean Wonders are AWESOME they make your hair and fingernails grow in days, they make you feel so alive and full of energy. I've been taking them for 30 years...............
