Guest guest
My kids had severe issues with lactulose. Kids with constipation are often low on lactic acid bacteria (acidolpholis and bifidus) and are unable to break down lactose. I would not recommend it for sensitive children. They also use lactulose to test for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth SIBO (leaky gut), which for me pretty much explains why my kids could not tolerate it, it never made it to the colon where it is supposed to go. We are trying a product by solaray called nutraflora right now, it is working better than any probiotic prebiotic or laxative we have tried. My son is 12months and he is going on his own after only 3 days on it, my 3 1/2 is still having some constipation issue but I have seen signifigant improvements in her behaviour already. It is supposed to take 3 to 4 weeks to multiply the good bacteria by 5x. So we are hoping that its going to keep getting better. We tried inulin and it helped with the yeast but not the bacteria the bacteria overgrew to the point that they both became very ill and stopped eating, that got a virus and my son had a severe ear infection, my kids are extremely sensitive and have had some pretty severe side effects (reflux flares and die off and more sever constipation) from probiotics. My son who was previously on necate for severe allergies is now drinking whole milk!! I will keep everyone updated on the progress, so far this is the only thing that they have not had severe side effects from. We are using 1/2 capsule daily, I noticed some gurgling in the small intestines of my kids, which to me said it was definately doing something, so we added gas drops with it and it took care of the gurgling. Also if my kids dont go by day 3, I give my daughter a pediatric senna strip and my son a suppository in an effort to not overstrech the colon. www.nutraflora.com http://www.pslgroup.com/dg/EAEE.htm have shown that adding as little as one gram of NutraFlora to a person's daily diet for four weeks will increase the number of friendly bacteria five fold. http://www.innvista.com/HEALTH/nutrition/biotics/prebsubs.htm Lactulose is a semisynthetic disaccharide comprised of lactose and fructose. Lactulose is resistant to human digestive enzymes and is fermented by a limited number of bacteria in the colon, especially Lactobacilli and Bifidobacterium. Currently, Lactulose is a prescribed drug in the United States for the treatment of constipation and hepatic encephalopathy, but it is still in experimentation to see if it is really a prebiotic substance. In Japan, it is marketed as a dietary supplement and for use in functional foods. http://pacwestnutrition.com/nffaqs.htm more on dosing nutraflora > > From: jesscloutier <jesscloutier@ ....>> Subject: What is the cause of this???> To: miralax@yahoogroups .com> Date: Saturday, September 13, 2008, 9:49 AM> > > > > > > My son is 7 and has been constipated since birth. Guest guest
I would also like to add that lactulose ferments in the stomach and if there is any yeast issues, it's a sugar and the way it ferments in the gut would only increase the yeast> > From: jesscloutier <jesscloutier@ ....>> Subject: What is the cause of this???> To: miralax@yahoogroups .com> Date: Saturday, September 13, 2008, 9:49 AM> > > > > > > My son is 7 and has been constipated since birth. Guest guest
That was my experience with it. Although I am supprised to find that the nutraflora doesnt seem to grow the yeast, I am judging it from the rashes dermatitis behaviour and red spots on the tounge. For the first time the yeast is finally getting under control with both my kids. > > From: jesscloutier <jesscloutier@ ....>> Subject: What is the cause of this???> To: miralax@yahoogroups .com> Date: Saturday, September 13, 2008, 9:49 AM> > > > > > > My son is 7 and has been constipated since birth.
