Guest guest
Many thanks for the link to the hour-long seminar on dementias. There is much food for thought there, although I did notice that it was sponsored by the drug company which makes Reminyl. And speaking of Reminyl, we start with it tomorrow. I'll keep you posted on results, if any. Ann
Guest guest
Reminyl just heard from our neurologist's nurse... after their visit to Paris they found too many problems with the co's test results. When I protested that it was in full use in the U.S. and why do trials all over again..I was reminded about thalidomide and the way Canada escaped the massive problems. Just the same I am mighty upset, the aricept seems to be losing its effect. I was unable to access the seminar but will try again. please keep in touch Ev
Guest guest
After 6 full months on Exelon and the only result was a continuous slide downhill, my husband was changed to Reminyl on June 21st. Within two days, I was pleased to find him far more alert and out of the drugged state Exelon seemed to keep him in. My L/O is far more talkative and actually making sentences sometimes that don't need to be deciphered and I believed....THIS IS IT... On the third day hallucinations and delusions returned and continue to be in full force. He actually woke me up the other morning accusing me of leaving him to get home alone. The story that came out was that we were with two men and going into a bar and I left him alone and went with the two men. Now to show you how rediculous this was, we are both teetotalers. He is supposed to be on the low dose for 4 weeks, then go to the next dosage which the Dr. said is where he will probably stay. It does go up to 12 mg x twice a day. Since it has been 2-1/2 weeks, I plan to call the Dr. to see if there is something else he can take for the hallucinations/delusions which are really upsetting him enough to actually cause him to cry out of frustrated. I am now wondering what the next dose level will do. Will it drug him more like the exelon did? I wonder which is better. To have him drugged and sleeping a lot or awake and alert but restless and talking to all his " friends " . I have some friends (caregivers) who take remeron which I just read about a few messages ago and was surprised to see they are giving it to LBD people. The Dr. gave me some samples for myself, but warned that it will cause you to eat more, so I have opted for celexa. I will be very anxious to see if you are having the same results with reminyl that we are. In the middle of all this, we are flying to CA next Tuesday for a week's visit with daughter & family and I am a nervous wreck about it. Have been seriously thinking about uping his dosage at the end of three weeks instead of four. That way he will be on the first week of 8mg while we are there. But at this point, after 6 months on Exelon without one positive thing to report on it, my hopes aren't really very high. Sometimes I get so frustrated I feel like crying...thank god for the celexa. It seems to hold me together. Joanne > Many thanks for the link to the hour-long seminar on dementias.
