Guest guest
, mineral oil is a petro-chemical and should be avoided. Flax is fine but hard to get them to take.................probiotics have xylitol and sorbital which supposively helps with going..............if they were previously on antibiotics it will also help with balancing back the good bacteria so you don't need laxatives at all.....................Kirkman Labs has a chewable that takes sweet and easy for kids to take, I swear by them................. http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/ViewProductDetails@Product_ID@184@Product_Group_ID@...--- Subject: questionTo: miralax Date: Monday, October 20, 2008, 7:35 AM I have taken both my kids off of Miralax, they are four year old twins. They both have had constipation issues. My son has had problems since he was a baby and my daughter since potty training. I started different things with not much success. Recently I have found Mineral oil and fiber combo to be working. My question is after doing some research I was thinking maybe Flax seed oil to be better for their health than mineral oil? Has anyone tried Flax seed oil for a stool softener? I guess my concern would be that they would need probably 3 tablespoons (that's how much mineral oil they take at bedtime), is that too much for them to take? Should I stick with mineral oil or go to Flax seed? Also has anyone heard of or tried Fibre Juice. THey are juice boxes with 10 grams plus of fibre in the juice so it supposedely doesn't have that gritty, thick consistency. Thanks in advance for eveyone's advice, I'm eager to hear what your opinions/experience are. L.
Guest guest
My daughter will take the chewable but my son won't. In fact my husband and I have been taking the chewable but my son really hates the taste. I was researching the falx seed oil and saw they had a lemonade flavore for kids.....I wonder if anyone has tried that? --------- questionTo: miralax Date: Monday, October 20, 2008, 7:35 AM I have taken both my kids off of Miralax, they are four year old twins. Guest guest
Hi. While I can't vouch for the effectiveness yet of some of my recommendations, I can make them to you and you can always try them: My chiropractor suggested I put my daughter on flax seeds (which you can put into oatmeal etc., even hamburgers!) Apparently flax seeds are more effective than the oil but I cant tell you why I also use Udo's oil on home made french fries, on salad, as a dip etc. (This is for lubrication). My daughter is also on probiotics (my daughter doesn't like the chewable either so I give her powder form), and I will also be giving her some fruit based fatty essential oils (which Im getting next week and dont have the name of it yet) As a rule of thumb, for my 3 year old, I give her half the dose of what an adult should take for any of this stuff I give her. I'm trying to wean my daughter off of laxatives but I realized today, it will be a slow process. She was on Miralax for 1 yr and 1/2 and then the GI suggested I change her over to Senokot because the Miralax wasn't working anymore. I probably did this too abruptly but I skipped a dose of Senokot today and she tried to poo but couldn't. Instead a small hard ball came out. I am sure the natural laxatives will work (they have to!) but I need to take it slow until they kick in. Guest guest
Hi , we tried fiber, mineral oil, flax oil, etc.... nothing helped except miralax which gave my girl crazy side effects and kirkman's chewable children's probiotics. Guest guest
I just orderd flax seed that is ground up...I heard/read that they are most effective when they are grinded up. So I ordered it that way along with the oil. I also ordered juice plus fibre which comes in juice box form and each box has 10 grams of fibre. I just took both of my kids off the miralax myself last week and my son was unfortunately on it for two years. So far so good with him stooling everyday but my daughter goes every other and probably half of what she should be. I"ll keep everyone posted on how this new combo will work. Guest guest
My daughter has been taking kirkman's chewable for a few weeks now but I don't see much results. My son won't take it. I'm having success with my son on the mineral oil but of course I am switching to Flax oil....and got the seeds, and this Juice plus fibre juice boxes. I think the miralax really effected my son also....his behavior at times is off the wall on the extreme side of normal. Right now I"m working on getting his thirst back and liquid levels (esp. water) back up. I would another chewable great tasting probiotic other than Kirkman's which is high quality but my son will not take it. Guest guest
Dump the Endo, find a good doctor. Does NOT have to be an Endo...... actually you are better off without an Endo.JeffTo: "thyroiditis " <Thyroiditis >Sent: Thursday, June 18, 2009 7:47:50 AMSubject: Question Hi, Well, my endo suggested I see a rehumotologist, only because she believes with the Hshmoto's that I could have more things. I am desperate to feel better so I will do whatever it takes to get that way. I get blood work again next month to check my TSH levels and unless they are bad that is the only way she will put me on synthroid. I shouldn't be tired all the time, pretty soon I won't have any hair and so on. Unless my nodules grow she won't do another biopsy so, eventhough the nuclear scan showed one as being "cold" she still doesn't feel it will be cancer. I pray its not but the not knowing kills me. If only the biopsy came back saying no cancer I would be happier but instead it was undiagnostic. I just need to feel normal again. Guest guest
Hi Joy: Sorry you are feeling so badly. I agree with Jeff, you need to find a dr. who will treat your symptoms and not just blood work. It sounds like you may need some thyroid meds. and supplements. Have you had your hormone levels checked? Sometimes imbalance can cause hair loss. If you are interested at all in iodine supplementation or reading more about thyroid support, you can check out these websites, iodine , also, stopthethyroidmadness.com. The more I read about Hashi's and my hypo symptoms, the more prepared I was to ask my doctors lots of questions. I left two endos because they were not taking my symptoms seriously. Good luck, Subject: QuestionTo: "thyroiditis " <Thyroiditis >Date: Thursday, June 18, 2009, 8:47 AM Hi, Well, my endo suggested I see a rehumotologist, only because she believes with the Hshmoto's that I could have more things.
