Was a bust for me... and caused SEVERE stomach trouble. Sulfa drugs do

that to me. And this one was SEVERE.

Hello, Carol Es!

Azulfidine (sulfasalazine) is not recommended in the treatment of

systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) since it is associated with

drug-induced lupus and exacerbations of SLE.

So, if your doctors think you have RA and SLE, Azulfidine is not a good

choice. Plaquenil is safe for both RA and SLE.

I am taking sulfasalazine aka azulfidine for my RA. It was added to my other

meds (mtx, plaquanil and orudis) after being on them for about a month. To be

honest, I really didn't notice any change in the way I felt, other than if I

take my last dose too late in the evening, I get heartburn (ranitidine works on

that).

Hope that helps.

does anyone here take Azulfidine, or have any experience with this

drug? The GI doc gave me this for the colitis, saying it also might

help my RA.

I am considering this Rx instead of the Plaquenil, possibly. ...just

trying to look at every option I have.

Any feedback?
